Registered Nurse (RN) –  Detention Center
Location: Detroit, MI
Employment Type: Full-Time, Part-Time, and Contingent Positions Available
Shifts: Midnights 8, 10, 12-hour shifts


About the Role
We are seeking Registered Nurses (RN) to provide medical care to individuals housed at a Detention Center based in Detroit. 


The role offers a unique opportunity to provide medical care in a secure environment while supporting individuals with diverse physical and behavioral health needs. 


This is a great opportunity for RNs with experience in acute care, behavioral health, and thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments where their skills can make a meaningful impact every day.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, RNs will assess, treat, and manage urgent, emergent, and chronic conditions in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 24/7 nursing coverage as part of a rotating schedule.
  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and re-assess detainee medical needs each shift.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
  • Deliver on-site emergency care, including CPR and use of AEDs, pending emergency response.
  • Assist with alcohol and drug detoxification protocols as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all care provided.
  • Collaborate with physicians, mental health staff, and facility personnel to ensure continuity of care.
  • Adhere to all established clinical guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Comply with all security, safety, and confidentiality protocols.

Qualifications

  • Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan.
  • Current BLS certification (required); ACLS preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience; correctional or emergency nursing experience is highly preferred.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
  • Strong assessment, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
