What is an IV Hydration RN Per Diem?

An IV Hydration RN Per Diem is a registered nurse who administers intravenous fluids, vitamins, and medications to clients on an as-needed or flexible schedule, rather than full-time employment. These nurses often work in wellness clinics, med spas, or mobile IV hydration services. Their responsibilities include assessing patient health, starting and monitoring IV infusions, and ensuring patient safety and comfort during procedures. 'Per diem' means they work shifts based on the staffing needs and their own availability, offering greater flexibility.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IV Hydration RN Per Diem?

To thrive as an IV Hydration RN Per Diem, you need a current RN license, strong intravenous therapy skills, and experience with patient assessment and monitoring. Familiarity with infusion pumps, electronic health records (EHRs), and up-to-date BLS/CPR certification is typically required. Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently help you stand out in this flexible role. These competencies ensure safe, effective patient care and allow you to adapt quickly to various clinical environments and patient needs.

What are some typical challenges an IV Hydration RN Per Diem might face during shifts, and how can they prepare for them?

As an IV Hydration RN working per diem, you may encounter challenges such as adapting quickly to varying patient needs, working in different clinic environments, and managing unpredictable schedules. It's important to stay current with best practices in IV therapy, maintain strong communication skills, and be comfortable working independently. Flexibility and the ability to build rapport with patients quickly are essential, since you may not always work with the same team or patient population each shift.

Job Summary IV Nutrition is a modern wellness clinic focused on helping clients optimize their health through IV hydration therapy, vitamin injections, wellness testing, weight management support, red light therapy, and other wellness services. We are committed to providing an exceptional patient experience in a welcoming and professional environment. We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and customer-focused Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team on a per diem basis. The ideal candidate is comfortable consulting, compounding, starting IVs, educating patients, and delivering a premium wellness experience.
Unlike a traditional hospital setting, this role blends hands-on clinical excellence with team leadership, client education, and front desk support — all in a calm, upbeat, spa-like environment. If you are a licensed California RN with IV therapy experience who leads with energy, brings joy to your team, and genuinely loves working with people, we want to hear from you. Key Responsibilities
  • Independently mix and prepare IV nutrient formulas and hydrating fluids per physician-approved protocols prior to administration
  • Administer and oversee IV nutrition and hydration therapies, ensuring safe, high-quality care from start to finish
  • Perform comprehensive client assessments, start peripheral IVs, monitor active treatments, and manage post-infusion follow-up
  • Inspect IV insertion sites, change dressings, adjust IV flow rates, and remove peripheral IV catheters as needed
  • Identify contraindications to IV therapy for each client prior to treatment initiation
  • Assess each client’s physical health including vital signs, physical assessment, and mental status
  • Monitor client response to treatment throughout the session and post-infusion
  • Communicate any adverse reactions or clinical concerns promptly to the Medical Director
  • Manage and prevent infections through strict adherence to sterile technique and clinic infection control protocols
  • Lead, train, and mentor LVN, nursing support, and clinical technician staff
  • Conduct regular coaching, goal-setting, and professional development conversations with team members
  • Support training and certification of staff for nutrition infusion therapies and clinic protocols
  • Support specimen collection and handling for on-site wellness testing panels, per your certification and clinic protocols
  • Educate clients on IV Nutrition’s full service menu — IV drips, injections, blood testing — including benefits and which options best match their wellness goals
  • Conduct clinic tours and present membership and service packages to new and returning clients
  • Manage the full appointment calendar: booking, confirming, rescheduling, cancellations, and follow-up outreach
  • Answer all calls, texts, and voicemails promptly and professionally
  • Process payments, settle accounts, and manage the cash drawer accurately
Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of California
  • Minimum of five (5) year of nursing experience in a clinical setting with IV therapy experience required
  • Vascular access or infusion experience strongly preferred
  • Excellent IV catheter placement skills with a high first-attempt success rate
  • Experience in a med spa, infusion clinic, concierge wellness center, or outpatient setting is a strong plus
We Train You — You Bring the Energy
No IV therapy experience? No problem. We provide full, hands-on training covering our services, client protocols, and everything you need to confidently represent the IV Nutrition brand from day one.
