Clinical Support Unit Boise Hospital (Critical Care) - RN

Unit Type

ICU (Intensive Care Unit)

Clinical Support Unit – RN Float Pool

Facilities: Boise, Meridian & Nampa, Idaho
Float Pool Specialties: ER, ICU, MedSurg, Tele, L&D/PP, NICU

  • RNs float within their specialty and will not be floated to a lower-acuity specialty.
  • May float to any of the 3 facilities as a 1:1 sitter.
  • Facilities are ~20 minutes apart, located near the interstate, with safe parking.
 Specialty Details
  • ER: Boise, Meridian, Nampa. Meridian is the busiest ER in Idaho but is not a trauma center; Boise receives pediatric trauma.
  • ICU: 2 in Boise, 1 Meridian, 1 Nampa. Nampa generally has lower-acuity ICU patients.
  • MedSurg: 6 units across the 3 facilities.
  • Tele: 4 units across the 3 facilities.
  • L&D/PP: Boise—L&D & Mother Baby; Meridian—L&D & Postpartum; Nampa—LDRP.
  • NICU: All 3 facilities; travelers generally care for feeder/grower patients.
Requirements & Certifications
  • All RNs: BLS
  • Tele/Critical Care: ACLS + NIHSS
  • ED: TNCC
  • Minimum 2 years specialty experience
  • Previous travel experience required
  • L&D travelers: strong preference for antepartum + mother/baby experience
Drips / Monitoring
  • Drip titration required in ICU, ER, Tele, MedSurg and PICU.
  • MedSurg commonly titrates insulin.
  • ICU, ER, Tele and PICU nurses must read/interpret monitors.
  • Additional equipment/drip details pending from unit managers.
Staffing & Support
  • Charge nurse on every unit and every shift
  • 7 Float Pool assistant managers; one is always on call 24/7
  • Leadership/educator/admin team regularly rounds and checks in with travelers—including nights and weekends.
  • CNA/PCT support available, generally 1:8–10, depending on unit/day.
Scheduling
  • 12-hour shifts: 0700–1900 or 1900–0700
  • No self-scheduling
  • Team tries to block schedule but cannot guarantee it
  • Weekend work: as needed
  • Holidays: as needed
  • No call or standby requirement
Floating Process
  • Travelers receive assignments through an app 1 hour before the shift.
  • Assignment identifies the hospital and unit.
  • Travelers are first to float when coverage is needed.
  • Mid-shift floating can occur at any point during the shift, including to another unit or facility.
  • Travelers may be assigned to different facilities depending on operational need.
Orientation
  • Day 1: Meet & greet
  • 3 shifts: Inpatient/unit-specific orientation
Dress Code
  • No specific scrub color.
  • Clean and professional attire required.
