SUMMARY

 

The IT Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and improving the company’s information technology systems. This position works collaboratively with other IT personnel and provides hands-on support for users, computers, servers, network equipment, software, phones, security systems, backups, and related technology.


This position requires a broad, practical IT skill set, including the ability to support day-to-day systems and troubleshoot basic scripts, macros, SQL queries, reports, and automation tools used by the company. This is not a dedicated software-development position, but some scripting, programming, and database-query experience is required.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Provide hands-on technical support for company users, including PCs, laptops, printers, phones, mobile devices, software, access issues, and related peripherals.
  2. Administer user accounts, permissions, email, file access, printers, shared resources, and other business technology systems.
  3. Support Microsoft desktop, server, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and other common business application environments.
  4. Maintain physical and virtual servers, storage, operating systems, and related infrastructure.
  5. Maintain network infrastructure and connectivity, including routers, switches, firewalls, cabling, wireless access points, VPN access, and internet service.
  6. Support cybersecurity, backup, and disaster-recovery practices, including access control, patching, endpoint protection, firewall support, backup verification, and recovery testing.
  7. Support, troubleshoot, modify, create, and document practical internal tools, including scripts, macros, batch files, custom programs, SQL queries, reports, and other automation tools.
  8. Work with departments to improve the practical use of technology, reduce repetitive work, and support business operations.
  9. Train employees on hardware, software, security practices, and new technology as needed.
  10. Monitor system and network performance, troubleshoot technical issues, and help maintain reliable and secure IT operations.
  11. Support the company phone system and related communication systems.
  12. Procure, configure, install, maintain, and track company computers, software, peripherals, and other IT assets.
  13. Maintain IT documentation, software licenses, vendor contracts, warranties, equipment records, system procedures, and records of important system changes.
  14. Work with third-party IT contractors, vendors, and service providers as needed.
  15. Promote and contribute to a continuous improvement culture.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS


  1. BS Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent.
  2. Three or more years of hands-on IT experience preferred, especially in a small to mid-size company environment.
  3. Working knowledge of Windows desktop environments, Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, user permissions, and common business applications.
  4. Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, network, printer, email, user-access, and general technical support issues.
  5. Working knowledge of networking concepts and infrastructure, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls, routers, switches, wireless networks, and cabling.
  6. Ability to configure, maintain, and support physical and virtual servers, storage, operating systems, and related infrastructure.
  7. Familiarity with cybersecurity, backup, and disaster-recovery practices, including endpoint protection, patching, access control, backup verification, and recovery concepts.
  8. Practical scripting, programming, reporting, or database-query experience required, such as VBA, batch files, AutoHotkey, PowerShell, SQL, Python, or similar tools.
  9. Ability to read, troubleshoot, modify, document, and create small practical scripts, macros, SQL queries, reports, and automation tools to support business operations.
  10. Experience with SQL Server, ERP systems, manufacturing systems, or business-reporting tools preferred.
  11. Basic PBX, VoIP, or phone-system experience preferred.
  12. Experience working with third-party IT contractors, technology vendors, or service providers preferred.
  13. Experience using AI tools responsibly to improve productivity, troubleshooting, documentation, reporting, or automation is a plus.
  14. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  15. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work in a self-directed, fast-paced environment.
  16. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS


Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Occasionally, work will be done on the production floor which requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; safety glasses, hearing protection, safety toe shoes, and a hard hat.


REMOTE WORK


This position cannot be done remotely. It requires working hands-on with all IT equipment and software as well as trouble-shooting issues for teammates and physical set up of related equipment.
