What is the Opportunity?

Senior Manager Operational Risk / IT Risk and Compliance is responsible for supporting the management of Operational Risk and Technology / Cyber Risk supporting the broader Payments Technology Portfolios (including High Value Payments, Real Time and Core Payments, Trade Cash and Cheque) . This role entails collaborating with peers and cross-functional risk teams to identify, assess, and mitigate risk profiles. Key responsibilities include monitoring and reporting on risk, technology, and compliance metrics, as well as leading initiatives to promote risk, security, and compliance awareness within respective portfolios. The incumbent will be a leader who will architect and automate our risk management ecosystem, transforming manual processes into intelligent, data-driven workflows that unlock operational efficiency and enable our teams to focus on strategic risk insight.

As part of the Payments Technology Portfolio Management and Delivery team, you will lead the management and execution of Operational and Risk Management . As an expert voice to risk management you will be a critical resource advocating for the safety and soundness across the Payments applications and project delivery.

You will be accountable in supporting the articulation, monitoring and, in collaboration with Application/Project owners, the management of operational risk profiles, risk appetite, implementation and prioritization of the necessary mitigation plans/activities across project delivery, infrastructure and technology risks across the portfolio. You will also be responsible to establish key controls, monitoring, gap analysis, prioritization of mitigation strategies and ensuring risks are in line with the standards and control design for IT Risk Polices and Standards.

What will you do?

  • Lead the Operational and Risk Management across the Payments portfolio

  • Supports the identification of key priorities through a risk-based approach

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate technology risk profiles across the Payments portfolios

  • Lead initiatives to promote risk, security, and compliance awareness and remediation

  • Collaborate with cross-functional risk teams to ensure applications adhere to established compliance thresholds and maintain a strong security posture

  • Analyzes areas of perceived elevated or emerging risks, recommending mitigation strategies and escalating where required

  • Manage Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to Information Technology, Cyber Security, and Operational Risks

  • Day to day support for projects teams with risk assessments, and providing 1st line review/concurrence

  • Lead the automation and streamlining of risk processes with the risk management ecosystem (i.e. data aggregation , reporting, automated workflow management)

  • Trusted advisor in operations and risk governance processes and strategies in line with Enterprise Operational Risk Standard and IT Risk Centre of Governance

  • Prepare and present risk dashboards, reports, and metrics for presentation to senior management and governance forums

  • Oversee and drive the implementation of risk mitigation plans, control enhancements, and risk/issue remediation related to technology, cyber and operational risks

  • Leads compliance/risk campaigns and initiatives ensuring completion within set due dates

  • Interacts and supports risk governing bodies including Global IT Risk, GRM, Technology Infrastructure, Vulnerability Management Group, Controls Assurance, Internal Audit, and Risk Centres of Governance (CoG's) teams.

  • Shares best practices and ensures dissemination of information on RBC's IT Risk management practices and programs.

What do you need to Succeed?

Must Haves

  • 5+ Years of experience in risk management (with a focus on IT Risk and Cyber Risk), risk assessments, and leadership

  • Strong knowledge of risk and control assessment processes, RBC's organization, T&O processes, and compliance

  • Professional technology risk designations (e.g. CISA, CRISC, CISSP) and university graduate or equivalent

  • Strong understanding of banking operations, financial services regulatory landscape, and relevant technology

  • Demonstrates intellectual curiosity and actively questions existing approaches to identify improvement opportunities

  • Comfortable challenging the status quo and advocating for process innovation and modernization

  • Strong influencing, collaboration, and relationship-building skills

  • Expertise in MS Office, JIRA, Confluence, SharePoint Online, MS Planner and relevant work-flow automation tools

Nice-to-have

  • Automation: Proficiency in automation and data analysis

  • Experience with Archer and internal RBC risk management systems

  • Familiarity with Risk/Compliance protocols, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices for risk management

  • Good knowledge of RBC businesses, products, and organization
