What You'll Do:

Performs routine and daily tasks associated with assessing vulnerabilities, monitoring security tools, and responding to security incidents. Additionally, assists in improving the security architecture of the City. This position will also collaborate with various stakeholders to conduct technical assessments and contribute to the development of policies and procedures for the City.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the IT Cybersecurity Manager.

Essential Tasks & Responsibilities:

Essential Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular monitoring and analysis of network traffic for cybersecurity threats.
  • Identify security anomalies and assess security controls for weaknesses.
  • Mitigate and contain detected malicious activities to minimize damage.
  • Investigate and resolve cybersecurity incidents or escalate as necessary.
  • Stay informed on emerging cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and industry trends.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and lead remediation processes.
  • Address compliance issues and remediate non-compliant devices.
  • Maintain and update incident response playbooks based on lessons learned.
  • Continuously enhance detection, investigation, and response capabilities.
  • Support City departments' regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with City departments, IT personnel, and technical vendors.
  • Assist in developing cybersecurity awareness programs.
  • Evaluate changes to network security architecture.
  • Develop and maintain information security policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Science, Information Security, or a closely related field.
    • Minimum of three years of experience as an IT analyst or in information security.
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
    • Demonstrated experience with Linux, Unix, and Windows operating systems.
    • Knowledge of TCP/IP networks, routing protocols, routers, switches, hubs, and virtual machine servers.
    • Proficiency in network troubleshooting, firewall management, IDS/IPS, VPN, and SIEM technologies.
    • Familiarity with cybersecurity threat analysis and intrusion detection principles.
    • Working knowledge of shell scripting languages.
    • Understanding of information security principles, industry best practices, and relevant security regulations (e.g., CJIS, PCI).
    • Ability to clearly communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
    • Ability to effectively troubleshoot complex network and computing problems.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to maintain effective professional relationships with management, employees, vendors, and the public.
    • Availability to work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends.
    • Possession of a valid Driver's License
    • Ability to maintain professional judgment, composure, and effective performance during routine operations and high-pressure situations.
