The role of Undergraduate IT Intern is intended to start in Summer 2027.

An internship is a temporary position within 3M. Interns typically work a full-time schedule throughout a 10-12 week assignment. This position is limited to working 899 hours per service credit year. 3M provides eligible interns with a housing and transportation stipend in accordance with current policy.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career.

IT Internship assignments are available for both Technical and Business roles and are in the following areas:

  • Data & Analytics.This organization supports enterprise-wide master data management, data engineering, data integration, data quality, datascienceand artificial Intelligence (AI). Teams work with several technologies, including Power BI, Python, SQL, Snowflake, Power Platform, and more. Internship opportunities include both business and technicalanalyst.

  • Enterprise Applications.The Enterprise Applications (EA) team develops and delivers work on the SAP and legacy Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. They focus on providingan optimizedexperience for both customers andemployees. Teams within this area work globally and across several different areas within 3M including, but not limited to, manufacturing execution, research and development, and corporate divisions. Internship opportunities are available for business analysis, technical analysis, userexperienceand development.

  • Infrastructure Services.This organization providesflexible,enterprise-wide technologies to enable solutions and enhance platform performance and reliability to 3M'scustomers,suppliersand employees. Infrastructure Services deploys and supports bothon-premiseand cloud technologies globally. Teams with internship opportunities include networking, edge computing, platform engineering, webhostingand others.

  • Information Security, Risk & Compliance (ISRC).The Information Security, Risk & Compliance (ISRC) team is responsibleto protect3M's intellectual property, non-public company information and data, the information and privacy of 3M, workers, and entrusted information from customers and business partners. This team also protects against cyber-attacks and data breaches and prevents unauthorized access and cyber threats. The organization includes business and technical analysis roles within Risk & Compliance, Security Delivery & Architecture, Cybersecurity Operations, Data Protection, and Cybersecurity Transformation.

  • Digital Transformation.The Digital Transformation team investigates and drives implementation of new processes and technologies within the 3M business groups to drive growth and enhance customer experience. They also provide company-wide strategy for digitalcustomer, digitalproduct, digital operations and digitalenterprise. This team owns the digital product commercialization process, which includes development, projectmanagementand platform support.

  • IT Strategy & Services.The IT Strategy & Services team is a centralized organization to guide,optimizeandfacilitatethe delivery and execution of cross-functional activities within IT. The team iscomprisedof mergers & acquisitions, workforce planning, facilities, vendor management, andproject management. Internship opportunities are primarily for business analyst roles.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.

Additionalqualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in information technology, management information systems, computer science, computerengineeringor a STEM related discipline from an accredited institution

  • Current cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale

  • Previousexperience working in Information Technology

  • Previous relevant intern experience or co-op with a company or university

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Leadership and networking skills

  • Self-motivated and self-directed

  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and presentation).

Work location: This role has on-site working model, with the employee working at least four days a week in the office at 3M Center, located in Maplewood, MN.

Relocation: 3M provides eligible interns with a housing and transportation stipend in accordance with current policy.
