Help us make a difference as a Depot Manager in Taunton.

A quick look at the role

As a Depot Manager at Biffa, you'll take ownership of the day-to-day performance of our tanker depot operations. You'll lead teams, optimise operational performance, maintain the highest standards of health, safety and compliance, and ensure we continue to deliver an excellent service to our customers. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll balance people, operational and financial performance while ensuring full compliance with waste, transport and Working Time Directive requirements.

Your core responsibilities
  • Lead and manage day-to-day depot operations, overseeing the scheduling, routing and disposal of tankered waste collection activities.
  • Drive operational efficiency and performance, identifying opportunities to improve processes, minimise downtime and maximise the use of people and resources.
  • Lead, coach and develop depot teams, including office-based colleagues and drivers, creating a culture of accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Champion health and safety, ensuring procedures are followed, carrying out audits and proactively addressing any risks or concerns.
  • Build strong customer and supplier relationships, responding to queries and resolving service issues while working closely with sales and customer service teams.
  • Manage depot financial performance, including budgets, costs and revenue targets, using KPIs and financial information to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure full regulatory and legal compliance, including waste management, transport regulations, permits, documentation and the Working Time Directive.
  • Continuously improve depot performance, implementing cost-saving initiatives, improving service delivery and keeping up to date with changes in legislation, technology and industry best practice.

  • Proven experience in a management role ideally within the bulk liquid waste management or transport / logistics industry.
  • CPC qualification and a strong understanding of transport management requirements.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate, coach and develop teams.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and decision-making skills, with the confidence to work with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Good knowledge of bulk liquid waste management, transport regulations, health & safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong commercial and financial awareness, with experience managing budgets, resources and operational KPIs.
