Job description

Job Summary
With a patient centered culture, the Coding Specialist will provide a positive experience to our customers and patients through assigning diagnostic codes, procedure codes and charge codes to patient accounts in an efficient and timely manner. The coder/abstractor monitors and tracks accounts that need additional documentation to ensure accurate coding of accounts according to official coding guidelines.
Responsibilities

Learns new skills quickly on his/her own and applies them quickly and effectively. Makes it a practice to take charge of self-development by soliciting feedback, setting priorities and then acquitting or strengthening skills and knowledge through coursework or other methods.
Productivity
Consistently demonstrates coding yearly average productivity as determined by departmental policy or guidelines.
Quality/Accuracy
Applies all codes according to established coding guidelines with an accuracy rate as determined and established by department policy or guidelines.
Understanding Roles and Responsbilities
Takes responsibility for clarifying job responsibilities, including the need to understand performance standards and other expectations. Communicates with supervisor regularly to ensure that there is no misunderstanding about how performance will be measured and how expectations relate to the job. Seeks clarification as needed or when responsibilities are not understood. Willingly accepts change.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Light Work:Exerting up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. frequently and/or negligible amounts constantly.
One (1) year of previous coding experience OR a graduate of a medical billing & coding or medical office administration program required. Knowledge of patient billing practices, medical terminology including anatomy and physiology, and use of CPT and ICD-10 coding preferred. One year using CPT or ICD - 10 code preferred.
