Role OverviewThe
Instructional Social Worker (ISW) role is part of the
Yalow ISW-to-Teacher Pathway Program, a structured career pipeline designed for Master of Social Work (MSW) professionals who aspire to become classroom teachers.
Through this program, ISWs begin as co-teachers in grades K-2, applying their social work expertise to support both the academic and social-emotional needs of students. At the same time, ISWs enroll in the
RELAY Graduate School of Education residency program to earn teacher certification.
With hands-on classroom experience, mentorship, and professional development, ISWs gradually take on more instructional responsibility. Upon successful completion of the residency program, ISWs transition into lead teacher positions at Yalow-continuing their careers as educators grounded in both social-emotional learning and rigorous academics.
Starting salary: $76,000
Key Responsibilities- Serve as a co-teacher in a K-2 classroom, building instructional skills while supporting student learning.
- Apply social work training to strengthen social-emotional learning, classroom culture, and student support systems.
- Analyze student data and collaborate with colleagues to inform instructional practices and interventions.
- Build strong relationships with families, students, and staff to promote holistic student success.
- Maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment aligned with Yalow's high expectations.
- Participate in Yalow's three-week summer orientation and ongoing professional development throughout the school year.
- Engage fully in the RELAY residency program, working toward teacher certification.
Qualifications- Master of Social Work (MSW) required (must be conferred before start date).
- Commitment to completing the RELAY Graduate School of Education residency program.
