PERSONAL TRAINER JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position supports the work of the YMCA of Southern Arizona, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities. The Personal trainer assists YMCA members in finding new ways to inspire healthier habits through health & wellness. This position will work closely with members in promoting wellness and helping individuals realize their personal best. Personal trainers are responsible for developing relationships with members and assisting them through the process of actively working towards better health by providing support, encouragement, and education.  
Candidate MUST be able to work at the Lighthouse/City YMCA and Lohse Family YMCA locations.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A PERSONAL TRAINER:

Takes professional initiative to offer information, promote and sell wellness services and programs in a non-intimidating manner.
Demonstrates correct stances, posture, alignment and technique during wellness orientations and wellness sessions; shows safe, effective ranges of motion and exercise control, demonstrates strength & endurance
maintaining role-model form throughout.
Understands the prevention, detection, and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, basic emergency procedures, and the legal and professional responsibilities of personal trainers.
Conducts post-enrollment assessments to understand new members' definition of well-being, personal goals, cultural background, healthcare needs, diverse abilities and interests to develop a plan to meet their individual needs that align with the YMCA client management process.
Provides exceptional member service by exceeding expectations; consistently greets and acknowledges every person to encourage wellness participation.
Engages in active listening with prospects, members and program participants in order to build relationships, understand an individual's goals and interests and takes the initiative to ensure they have a positive experience.
Utilizes current operating software systems to maximize the individuals experience through membership sales, program registrations, and other software functions.
Receives and documents payments to ensure a balanced end-of-shift report.
Assists with administrative tasks that include responding to emails, keeping accurate member records and scheduling appointments.
Follows and enforces all YMCA procedures and policies including enforcing facility access procedures and membership policies; ensures general safety and equipment guidelines are adhered; carries out emergency plans as appropriate; enforces all member codes of conduct, rules and policies including, but not limited to, age restrictions, dress codes, language and proper use of YMCA equipment and facilities.
Effectively communicates unusual situations and unresolved issues to the appropriate member of leadership ensuring the best interest of all parties involved.
Initiates appropriate actions to maintain safety, cleanliness and organization throughout the facility, with priority being the health and wellness department.
Effectively engages with diverse groups of people with different abilities and backgrounds.
Integrate the mission of the YMCA and follow the core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility into the healthy living aspect of job responsibilities.
Is knowledgeable and supportive of the YMCA Annual Campaign.
Successfully completes and passes periodic skill assessments and performance evaluations.
 Ensures the safety and well-being of consumers by maintaining professional boundaries, completing required abuse risk management training, following procedures for high-risk activities and supervision, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations, and adhering to mandated abuse reporting requirements.
Attends continuing education, mandatory training, and staff meetings.
Maintains all job-related certifications on file.
Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS TO BE A PERSONAL TRAINER:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current national Personal Training Certification required (YMCA, ACA, ACSM, NSCA, AFAA, ISSA or other that meet YUSA guidelines).
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  • Intermediate or advanced knowledge of technology.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications for Infants/Children/Adults within thirty (30) days of hire.
  • Completion of HIPAA and YMCA online training upon date of hire and periodically thereafter.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule.

PART-TIME BENEFITS:
