REPORTS TO: Building Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent (some college preferred).
- Computer/Technology skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to accept direction.
- Ability to monitor student behavior and maintain order.
- Ability to develop a positive rapport with students.
- Ability to make and carry out effective decisions concerning student behavior management.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to attend to detail and follow tasks through to completion.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff.
- Knowledge of effective methods for dealing with anger and conflict situations desirable.
- Ability to learn behavior modification techniques desirable.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board of education may find appropriate and acceptable.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
- Provides appropriate instructional assistance and support for students.
- Exhibits professionalism in all job related situations; follows professional ethics in all work related activities; presents a personal appearance which enhances the image of the school.
- Coordinates and communicates with classroom teachers in assisting students in the continuation of classroom assignments.
- Adheres to local school procedures and regulations in a supportive manner; demonstrates loyalty to the school and its leadership; avoids behavior which detracts from staff morale; works cooperatively with colleagues and the community; helps maintain a positive, cooperative climate.
- Coordinates with the student support staff to provide needed services.
- Promotes a positive school environment that enhances student learning.
- Plans for instruction according to policies and/or directives.
- Makes referrals on students in need of further remediation and/or counseling.
- Interacts with students, individually and/or in groups, to assist them in accepting responsibility for their behavior and for changing that behavior.
- Keeps current records on all ISS students and submits accurate paperwork on schedule.
- Maintains required work schedules in a punctual manner.
- Prepares adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absent.
- Accounts for student attendance and punctuality.
- Follows all county, state, and federal policies and procedures.
- Maintains structure and discipline in the ISS room and directs the conduct of students in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Takes all reasonable measures to protect students' health and safety.
- Seeks to improve through professional development and evaluation activities.
- RESPONSIBILITIES WHEN NOT SUPERVISING ISS STUDENTS: Plans and prepares the ISS delivery model to include, but not limited to (1) appropriate physical environment, (2) schedules and procedures, (3) information/communication plan for school staff members, (4) life skills preparation, and (5) resource file for students; provides services and/or support for at-risk students, including but not limited to (1) school-wide registration/orientation, (2) student cumulative records/guidance activities, (3) instructional program activities, (4) student management, and (5) student attendance.
- Maintains prompt and professional communication with parents.
- Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrators
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the board of education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
