Job description

About Us

Clayco is a full-service, turnkey real estate development, master planning, architecture, engineering, and construction firm that safely delivers clients across North America the highest quality solutions on time, on budget, and above and beyond expectations. With $8.1 billion in revenue for 2025, Clayco specializes in the "art and science of building," providing fast track, efficient solutions for mission critical, industrial, life sciences, power & energy, aviation, commercial, institutional, residential and sports & entertainment related building projects.

The Role We Want You For

The IT Field Engineer provides advanced IT services to internal customers at Clayco jobsites across the country. Building on the Field Support Technician role, this position adds responsibility for solution design and ownership of jobsite communication. Beyond installing, documenting, and testing computer systems and peripherals, the Field Engineer serves as the primary technical point of contact for jobsite stakeholders, designs and commissions network and AV solutions for temporary site infrastructure — including AV tent builds and data center temporary connectivity — and communicates project timelines directly to jobsite leadership.

This role requires the ability to translate field requests into workable technical designs and to prioritize tickets according to business impact. It is a heavily field-based position: expect 40% or more travel, frequently to active construction sites, with the ability to deploy on short notice when a site-down condition requires immediate on-site resolution.

The Specifics of the Role

Jobsite Support & Stakeholder Communication

  • Provide day-to-day IT support to remote jobsites across the Clayco portfolio.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for jobsite leadership regarding IT infrastructure status, timelines, and open requests.
  • Communicate project timelines to jobsites and proactively update stakeholders as scope or schedule changes.
  • Own communication of solution timelines back to jobsite requestors, from initial scoping through completion.
  • Prioritize problems and incidents by business impact and escalate to internal teams as appropriate.
  • Perform post-resolution follow-ups on requests and incidents to confirm resolution and customer satisfaction.

Solution Design & Deployment

  • Design and implement solutions for jobsite requests, including AV tent builds and temporary connectivity infrastructure.
  • Commission internet and network designs for data center sites, including validation and handoff documentation.
  • Perform physical installation of Meraki networks and full-site mesh networks.
  • Install and configure satellite and cellular communication solutions.
  • Configure Cisco AV room kits (Webex) at the design level to meet jobsite requirements.
  • Align IT infrastructure timelines with construction milestones in coordination with Design and Construction teams.

Operations & Maintenance

  • Serve as first line of troubleshooting for remote networks, with escalation authority for design-level issues.
  • Perform regular health checks on equipment at remote sites.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, including inspection and cleaning of workstations, printers, and peripherals.
  • Manage printer hardware and software across jobsites.
  • Work with ISP vendors and managed services partners to resolve technical problems.
  • Partner with Service Desk, Device Support, Engineering, VDC, and Development teams to resolve local and remote client issues.

Documentation, Training & Continuous Improvement

  • Create and maintain training materials and knowledge base articles.
  • Provide training on software, hardware, and systems to Clayco team members.
  • Use diagnostic utilities, knowledge bases, and internet resources to document troubleshooting processes others can follow.
  • Identify recurring incidents, inform leadership, and provide feedback to Engineering and Development teams.
  • Provide technical assistance for project planning and support.
  • Contribute to company vision and direction by helping improve technical practices.

Requirements

  • 3 to 6 years of IT experience, including prior field support or infrastructure design experience.
  • Experience designing or commissioning network connectivity for data centers or similarly complex sites.
  • Working knowledge of AV solutions, including design and deployment for temporary and tent-based builds.
  • Experience with cellular technologies (Cradlepoint routers, hotspots) and satellite connectivity.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Windows, Microsoft 365 / Office Suite, and iOS devices.
  • Experience using an enterprise ticketing system; ServiceNow strongly preferred.
  • Customer-facing service experience in a field or on-site support environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to manage stakeholder expectations directly.
  • Ability to independently scope technical requests and communicate delivery timelines to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-starter capable of working productively without direct supervision.
  • Sound deductive reasoning and structured troubleshooting approach.
  • Adaptable and willing to learn Clayco business and construction delivery processes.
  • Travel: 60% or more, primarily to active construction jobsites nationwide.
  • Must be available to travel on short notice when a site issue warrants immediate on-site resolution.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Work is regularly performed in active construction environments, including outdoor conditions, temporary structures, and areas subject to noise, dust, and variable weather.
  • Site-required personal protective equipment must be worn at all times on active jobsites.

Some Things You Should Know

  • Our clients and projects are nationwide – Travel will be required.
  • No other builder can offer the collaborative design-build approach that Clayco does.
