Job description

Alcott HR is searching for a Benefits Product Manager to serve as our subject matter expert for employee benefits products, carrier relationships, plan design strategy, and benefits administration. As part of a Professional Employer Organization (PEO), this role helps employers leverage the scale, expertise, and buying power of Alcott's benefits platform to enhance their employee programs. This position bridges the gap between product management, benefits consulting, underwriting, sales, implementation, and client service.

The ideal candidate possesses both deep technical expertise in employee benefits and the consultative skills necessary to advise employers, prospects, brokers, and internal stakeholders on strategic benefits decisions. They are equally comfortable explaining a complex funding arrangement to a CFO, training internal teams on a new product offering, or troubleshooting a challenging enrollment issue.

This individual will play a critical role in maintaining Alcott's competitive benefits portfolio, supporting growth initiatives, and helping clients maximize the value of their employee benefits programs.

Responsibilities:

Benefits Product Expertise

  • Serve as the organization's subject matter expert on medical, dental, vision, life, disability, voluntary, and ancillary benefit offerings.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of carrier products, network structures, funding arrangements, underwriting methodologies, and emerging market trends.
  • Evaluate carrier renewals, product enhancements, and new market opportunities.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting employee benefits.
  • Support the development and maintenance of benefit product documentation, training materials, and client-facing resources.

Strategic Client Consulting

  • Advise prospective and existing clients on benefit strategy, plan design, contribution modeling, and employee experience considerations.
  • Participate in finalist meetings, sales presentations, and strategic client discussions.
  • Assist employers in balancing competitiveness, affordability, compliance, and workforce objectives.
  • Provide guidance on funding arrangements including fully insured, level-funded, and alternative funding options where applicable.
  • Support large client renewals and complex benefits discussions.

Sales & Business Development Support

  • Partner with sales consultants to position Alcott's benefits offerings effectively.
  • Conduct benefits-focused discovery conversations with prospects.
  • Assist in responding to RFPs and complex prospect inquiries.
  • Develop competitive analyses comparing Alcott's offerings against market alternatives.
  • Support broker and referral partner education initiatives.

Internal Enablement

  • Train sales, client service, underwriting, and implementation teams on benefit products and market developments.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex benefits-related questions.
  • Create educational content and resources for internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with underwriting and pricing teams to ensure accurate product positioning.

Product Development & Vendor Management

  • Evaluate new carrier partnerships and product opportunities.
  • Participate in carrier negotiations and annual strategic reviews.
  • Analyze enrollment trends, utilization data, and client feedback.
  • Identify opportunities to improve product offerings, administration, and client experience.
  • Support implementation of new benefits products and services.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of employee benefits experience in a PEO (preferred), brokerage, carrier, consulting, or benefits administration environment.
  • Deep understanding of group health insurance products and employee benefits programs.
  • Health insurance producer license preferred.
  • Experience advising employers on benefits strategy and plan design.
  • Strong presentation and consultative communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and benefits administration technology.
  • Knowledge of underwriting methodologies and renewal analysis.
  • Experience with isolved or similar HRIS/benefits administration platforms.

Why This Role Matters

Employee benefits are often the single largest area of spend and one of the most important talent attraction and retention tools for employers. The Benefits Product Manager ensures Alcott remains a trusted advisor by combining deep technical expertise with practical business guidance, helping clients make smarter benefits decisions while strengthening Alcott's market differentiation.

Compensation: $100,000 - $130,000 annually commensurate with experience
