An ISO 9001 Management Representative is a person within an organization who is appointed to oversee the implementation and maintenance of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS). Their responsibilities typically include ensuring that processes are established and maintained according to ISO 9001 standards, reporting on the performance of the QMS to top management, and promoting a culture of continual improvement. They also serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors or certification bodies. While the 2015 revision of ISO 9001 no longer mandates a formal Management Representative, many companies still appoint one to ensure effective quality management and compliance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an ISO 9001 Management Representative, and why are they important?

To thrive as an ISO 9001 Management Representative, you need thorough knowledge of quality management systems, process auditing, and compliance standards, often supported by ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification or equivalent experience. Familiarity with quality management software, document control systems, and internal audit tools is typically required. Strong leadership, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set exceptional candidates apart in this role. These capabilities are crucial for ensuring ongoing compliance, driving continual improvement, and fostering a culture of quality within the organization.

What are some common challenges faced by an ISO 9001 Management Representative, and how can they be addressed?

Addressing these challenges involves establishing clear communication channels, providing regular training sessions to staff, and leveraging quality management software to streamline processes. Proactive engagement with all departments and a strong focus on continuous improvement help ensure the organization not only remains compliant but also benefits from an effective quality management system.

The Quality Assurance Manager runs internal and external audits, drives corrective action to closure, and partners with production and supply chain to resolve quality issues at the source. This is a full-time, on-site role in a manufacturing environment supporting both commercial and government contract production.

What We Offer

  • Base salary of $75,000 to $85,000 per year, based on experience and audit background.
  • Full ownership of the ISO 9001:2015 quality management system rather than a narrow slice of it.

  • Supervise and mentor the QA inspection team, including annual reviews, disciplinary reviews, and timecard approval.
  • Analyze and document corrective action responses when a non-conformance arises. Monitor implementation and measure results to confirm the issue is fully closed.
  • Manage the system tracking government quality approvals and planned deliveries of finished textile goods, and maintain calibration and quality records.

Qualifications - Quality Assurance Manager

  • Bachelor's degree required; BS in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or operations environment.
  • Hands-on experience with regulatory audits and compliance standards, including ISO 9001:2015.
  • Working knowledge of statistics and general numeracy applied to quality data and inspection results.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and quality management software.

Preferred Qualifications - Quality Manager

  • Two or more years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Trained or certified ISO 9001 internal auditor.
  • Background in sewn products, textiles, or another discrete manufacturing environment.
