Job description

Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Instructional Systems Designer (ISD) to join our team in the greater DMV area, supporting the Army National Guard.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee courseware design using ISD/ADDIE methodology and align training products across the ARNG enterprise training portfolio.
  • Analyze training requirements, audience needs, and system updates to produce missionaligned learning objectives, lesson plans, job aids, and instructor guides.
  • Develop and update instructional materials for classroom, virtual, and distributed delivery: instructorled content, elearning modules, multimedia videos, and interactive exercises.
  • Convert system functionality and workflows into effective training curricula in collaboration with training centers, product teams, and SMEs.
  • Create and maintain instructional assets in the Product Library and manage versioning and release of courseware packages.
  • Prepare instructional packages and support CONUS/OCONUS delivery (VTC, DCS, Mobile Training Teams); validate content via pilot classes and learner feedback.
  • Maintain training servers and coordinate with system administrators for training environment configuration and operations.
  • Produce assessment instruments, competency checklists, and evaluation reports to measure learning outcomes and inform continuous improvement.
  • Ensure courseware complies with TRADOC standards and enterprise training governance; document updates and sustainment plans.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 3 years with PhD
  • Clearance: Active TS/SCI clearance.

  • Candidate must meet ONE of the following:

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field; OR
    • Relevant DoD/military training (examples: Cyber 101); OR
    • Relevant professional certification or equivalent experience in instructional design or training development.
  • Required experience and skills:

    • Instructional design, training development, or curriculum management experience; demonstrated seniorlevel ISD work supporting complex enterprise systems.
    • Expert knowledge of ISD/ADDIE methods, learning objectives design, assessment development, and adult learning principles.
    • Proficiency with authoring and LMS tools (e.g., Articulate/Storyline, Captivate, Camtasia, Power BI for reporting, and enterprise LMS platforms).
    • Experience producing multimedia instruction, VTC/virtual classroom facilitation materials, job aids, and mobile training packages.
    • Familiarity with TRADOC training standards, training server/environment configuration, and managing courseware lifecycle/version control.
    • Strong stakeholder collaboration, SME facilitation, pilot validation, and learnerassessment analysis skills.
  • Desired:

    • Prior DoD/ARNG training center or RCASFMS courseware experience and familiarity with CONUS/OCONUS delivery models.
    • Experience supporting Mobile Training Teams, VTC/DCS operations, and coordinating training system deployments.
    • Background in instructional multimedia production, accessibility/SCORM packaging, and LMS integration.

Target Salary Range$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations.
