Job description

Job: MAGS-Assistant Golf Superintendent - Golf Recurring (Operations)

As an Assistant Golf Superintendent, you will support the Golf Superintendent in the day-to-day management of golf course maintenance for one of the courses within a large landscaping organization. This role plays a critical part in delivering high-quality playing conditions, leading maintenance crews, and ensuring consistency with company standards, safety practices, and environmental stewardship. The Assistant Golf Superintendent is a hands-on leader who helps execute agronomic programs while developing the skills needed for future superintendent advancement.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Golf Superintendent with daily course maintenance operations, including turf care, crew scheduling, and task execution.
  • Supervise and lead maintenance personnel, ensuring productivity, quality standards, and safe work practices are followed.
  • Help implement agronomic programs such as mowing, irrigation, fertilization, aeration, pest control, and cultural practices.
  • Monitor course conditions and communicate recommendations to maintain optimal turf health and playability.
  • Assist with irrigation system operation, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Support equipment oversight, including proper use, cleaning, preventative maintenance, and coordination of repairs.
  • Ensure adherence to safety policies, OSHA requirements, and company environmental standards.
  • Assist with inventory management for chemicals, supplies, and materials in compliance with regulations.
  • Participate in planning and preparation for tournaments, special events, weather impacts, and seasonal demands.
  • Maintain accurate records related to chemical applications, labor hours, equipment usage, and maintenance activities.
  • Performing other tasks as assigned

Requirements:
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in turfgrass management, agronomy, horticulture, or a related field preferred.
  • 2-5 years of experience in golf course maintenance or turf management.
  • Working knowledge of turfgrass species, agronomic practices, irrigation systems, and golf course equipment.
  • Ability to lead and communicate effectively with maintenance crews.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required by golf operations.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate maintenance vehicles and equipment safely.

Preferred Skills & Experience:
  • Experience working within a multi-course or multi-location golf or landscaping organization.
  • State or local pesticide applicator license or the ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe.
  • Exposure to budget tracking, labor management, and cost control initiatives.
  • Familiarity with environmental best practices, water conservation, and integrated pest management (IPM).
  • Strong interest in career development with the goal of advancing to Golf Superintendent.
  • Ability to adapt to standardized processes while maintaining course-specific needs and conditions.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred to support a diverse workforce.
