Job description

POSITION BACKGROUND

As part of the Company's Power Services team,the Automation Specialist will promote and establish excellent relationshipsand use their area expert skills to assist with, or lead, certain aspects of aproject. The Automation Specialist will organize, instruct, and ensure their positionof the project is completed within the required deadline and in a safe manner.This portion will also be the key technical expert for industrial automationprograming modification on any Company or client equipment. Innovation andenvironmental sustainability are key expectation in this role. For the purposes of this document,'Company' refers to Ketek Group Inc. and all its subsidiaries.


CORE DUTIES

Programming and Development:

  • Designand program PLCs using multiple languages (Structured Text, Ladder Logic, SFC).
  • Developand implement machine communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP,Profibus).
  • Collaboratewith the IoT and Remote Monitoring team to integrate automation with the Company'ssystems, utilizing JSON, MQTT, and similar technologies.

Project Support:

  • Workwith project teams to define automation requirements and ensure compliance withclient specifications.
  • Developproject requirements by reviewing project proposals and plan while conferringwith management.
  • Determineproject specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, andperformance standards.
  • Completetechnical studies and preparing cost estimates.
  • Conductsystem tests, debug and optimize performance to meet functional standards.
  • Assistin creating technical documentation, including system design and operationmanuals.
  • Prepareproject status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing informationand trends.

Innovation and Maintenance:

  • Evaluateand implement new technologies to enhance automation capabilities.
  • Providetroubleshooting and technical support for deployed automation systems.
  • Contributeto ongoing development of the Company's IoT and remote monitoring software.

Client and Team Collaboration:

  • Communicateeffectively with clients to understand automation needs and purpose solution.
  • Providetraining and support to team members on automation and programming bestpractices.
  • Maintainsafe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, andregulations.
  • Maintainsproduct and company reputation by complying with regulation.
  • Contributeto team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Performother related duties as required.
  • Consultwith businesses, governments, and special interest groups.
  • EnsureISO 9001 Quality Management System Guidelines are met.
  • Providesubject matter expertise on environment, fiscal, and technological impacts ofprojects.

  • Representthe Company at different national and international forums.
  • Representthe Company in a light that is commensurate with values of Management and theCorporate Vision and Mission Statements.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Required

  • Minimumof 10 years of experience of PLC programming in multiple programming languages.
  • Expertisein machine communication protocols such as Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and Profibus.
  • Strongunderstanding of electrical control systems and automation principles.
  • Proficiencyin software development for industrial of IoT systems (e.g., Java, C++, JSON,MQTT).
  • StrongElectrical Design and Control knowledge.
  • Strongknowledge of oil and gas, chemical, manufacturing, technology, andinfrastructure and development projects.
  • AutoCADdesign knowledge is an asset.
  • Fluentin English language (reading, written, spoken)
  • Effectiveverbal, listening, and written communication skills.
  • Ableto deal with the public in a positive, courteous, and respectful manner.
  • Ableto handle changing schedules and priorities, with high-level prioritizationskills.
  • Strongwork ethic and organizational planning skills with attention to detail

Preferred

  • Bachelor'sor Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation or
  • CertifiedEngineering Technologist (CET); or
  • JourneymanElectrician with automation expertise.
  • Recognizedtechnical expertise by the marketplace.
  • Knowledgeand familiarity with other prevailing codes and guidelines.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand/sit, talk/hear, use hands/fingers to operate a computer and telephone, stoop, and kneel.
  • Prolongedexposure to computer screens.
  • Moderateto heavy lifting (up to 50lbs) may be required.
  • Usemechanical aids: overhead crane, forklift, pallet jack, and dolly may berequired.

Work Environment

  • Officeenvironment (80%), Field environment (20%).
  • Maybe required to travel to meetings and conferences.
  • Maybe required to work weekends and outside of regular office hours.
  • Pre-Accessdrug and alcohol testing may be required for Client site visits.
