What is an iOS developer contract?

An iOS Developer Contract job is a temporary or project-based position where a developer is hired to build, maintain, or improve iOS applications. Contracts can range from a few months to a year and may be extended based on project needs. Contractors typically work independently or with a team, focusing on coding, debugging, and ensuring compatibility with Apple's ecosystem. This role often provides flexibility but may not include benefits like full-time employment.

What are the typical responsibilities and workflow for an iOS developer contract?

As an iOS Developer on a contract, you’ll usually be tasked with designing, building, and maintaining iOS applications based on client specifications, collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and backend developers. Your work may span from developing new features and fixing bugs to integrating third-party libraries and ensuring optimal app performance. Contractors often need to manage their tasks independently, adhere to project timelines, and communicate progress through regular updates or virtual meetings. Since you might work with multiple clients or teams, adaptability and the ability to quickly understand new codebases or requirements are crucial for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the iOS developer contract position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an iOS Developer Contract, you need strong proficiency in Swift and Objective-C, a thorough understanding of iOS frameworks, and experience with the full mobile development lifecycle, often supported by a relevant degree or technical certification. Familiarity with tools like Xcode, UIKit, CocoaPods, version control systems (Git), and knowledge of App Store submission processes are essential. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are key soft skills, particularly when working remotely or with cross-functional teams. These abilities enable contractors to deliver high-quality apps efficiently, adapt to varying client needs, and maintain productive client relationships.

Job description

Senior Product Designer

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer with exceptional motion and interaction design skills to join a small, early-stage team building the next generation of mobile financial experiences. This role is ideal for a designer who understands how motion, micro-interactions, and visual craft make a product feel intuitive, engaging, and polished—and can translate those ideas into scalable, buildable product experiences.

This is a contract-to-hire opportunity, with the expectation that the right designer will have the opportunity to convert to a full-time role. You’ll work closely with product and engineering to shape core mobile experiences from concept through launch, operating independently in a fast-moving environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Own product design across key areas of the mobile experience, from early concepts and prototypes through polished, production-ready designs.
  • Design primarily for native iOS and Android experiences, with a strong focus on interaction and motion.
  • Create thoughtful motion and micro-interactions that make the product feel intuitive, engaging, and differentiated.
  • Develop motion concepts into buildable patterns using tools such as Lottie.
  • Work within and contribute to the design system, leveraging existing components and expanding patterns thoughtfully when new needs arise.
  • Take ownership of ambiguous product areas, including rewards and gamification, crypto and investment experiences, and future social/community features.
  • Partner closely with product and engineering to balance user needs, business goals, technical constraints, and product quality.

What We’re Looking For

  • ~5 years of experience with a track record of independently owning complex product areas.
  • Strong mobile product design experience, ideally across both native iOS and Android.
  • Exceptional visual and interaction design craft, with a strong eye for polish, hierarchy, typography, and detail.
  • Deep experience with motion and micro-interactions.
  • Strong understanding of design systems, including working with established components and thoughtfully extending systems when needed.
  • Experience designing complex or high-consideration products. Fintech experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Comfortable working in a startup or small-team environment where priorities can evolve quickly.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly articulate design decisions.

Contract-to-Hire Structure

This role will begin as a 3 month, full time contract engagement, with the intent to convert to full-time based on mutual fit. During the contract period, you’ll operate as an embedded member of the product + design teams.
