How you'll make an impact in this role
  • The Senior Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) - Float Pool is a versatile and experienced Clinical Documentation Integrity professional responsible for providing cross-coverage and high-level CDI support across Ascension's multi-market system. This individual functions as an advanced front-line Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS), deployed to cover temporary staffing gaps due to PTO, medical leave, vacancies, and fluctuating census, while maintaining high-quality standards and supporting continuity of CDI operations. 
  • Manage high-complexity cases, leads key initiatives, and serves as a subject matter expert and mentor within the Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) departments across markets. Demonstrate expertise in CDI practices, coding guidelines, and provider collaboration to facilitate complete and accurate medical record documentation.
  • Adapt to varied facility workflows, EHRs, and service lines with minimal training. Support new CDS onboarding, short-term training, and regional initiatives when not deployed for coverage. 
  • Strong technical skills in navigation of multiple EHRs. Quickly acclimate to local workflows, EHRs (Epic, Cerner), and CDI software (3M, Iodine, Nuance).
  • Must be certified in CCDS- Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS)
What minimum qualifications you'll need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

Required Credential(s):

  • Clinical Documentation Prof. credentialed from the Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Education:

  • High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 1 year of experience OR 5 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required. 2 years of leadership or management experience preferred.
What additional requirements you'll need
  • 3+ years of clinical documentation, coding, DRG, and strong CDI standards.
  • Proven adaptability to various hospital systems and workflows. Expertise in SOI/ROM, MCC/CC, mortality reviews, and quality indicator alignment (PSI, HAC).
  • Strong time management, independence, and problem-solving skills. Proficient with multiple CDI tools (CDE One, Cerner preferred) and remote platforms. 
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license and CCDS certified requiired
