Job description

This role is part of Artisan Partners' Trade Operations team and supports the infrastructure, information and processes that enable our investment teams to trade globally. Trading Services responsibilities span counterparty and trading documentation administration, commission management, custody and brokerage relationships, new instruments and markets, regulatory and management reporting, and recurring market administration activities.
A key focus of the role will be serving as a central operational resource for the firm's trading relationships. The individual will develop a strong understanding of the counterparties, custodians, brokers and other providers available to each investment strategy, including how each relationship is used and the documentation and operational requirements associated with it. Working closely with Investment Teams, Trading, Legal and other internal stakeholders, this individual will help coordinate and prioritize new relationships and capabilities based on evolving investment needs.
Responsibilities
The candidate is expected to:
  • Coordinate the establishment and ongoing administration of trading relationships, including counterparties, custodians, prime brokers and clearing brokers, while maintaining a strong understanding of the legal entities, markets, instruments and services supported by each relationship
  • Serve as a central resource for counterparty information and reporting, providing visibility into existing capabilities, utilization, exposures, documentation status and outstanding requirements
  • Partner with Investment Teams and Trading to understand upcoming investment needs and help prioritize the operational work required to establish new counterparties, capabilities, instruments or markets
  • Support new investment products and trading strategies by coordinating required counterparty, custody, clearing, electronic trading, market access and operational setup, as well as ongoing market and fund vehicle administration
  • Administer the firm's commission management activities, including research targets and payments, Commission Sharing Arrangements, reconciliations and reporting, while supporting consistent soft dollar eligibility determinations
  • Administer recurring regulatory, counterparty and market reporting responsibilities, including 13H reporting, and identify opportunities to improve reporting quality and efficiency
  • Maintain strong counterparty, account and legal entity data, partnering with Technology and data teams to improve consistency, accessibility and use in reporting
  • Over time, serve as a business lead for counterparty data initiatives, translating business needs and data flows into requirements for the firm's Snowflake data environment
  • Develop a strong understanding of the front-to-back trade lifecycle across asset classes and apply that knowledge to projects, procedures, controls and automation initiatives across Trading Services and Trade Operations
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have:
  • 5+ years of relevant investment management experience in counterparty or documentation administration, investment operations, trade support or a related function
  • Strong knowledge of institutional trading relationships and the roles of counterparties, custodians, prime brokers, clearing brokers and other trading service providers
  • Experience coordinating trading documentation and counterparty onboarding, with familiarity with documentation supporting derivatives, prime brokerage, futures, clearing, custody or execution relationships strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of legal entities, investment fund structures, accounts, KYC and counterparty reference data
  • Knowledge of the trade lifecycle and operational infrastructure supporting multiple asset classes, including equities, fixed income, foreign exchange and derivatives
  • Strong reporting and analytical capabilities, with the ability to organize complex relationship and operational information into useful reporting and insights
  • Ability to understand data flows and translate business processes and complex relationship information into clear business requirements; experience partnering with Technology or data teams on data modeling, reporting or system initiatives preferred
  • Strong judgment, communication and organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to work across Investment Teams, Trading, Legal, Compliance, Technology and external service providers to drive work through completion
  • Experience with execution and order management systems, portfolio or investment accounting systems, security master/reference data platforms or counterparty management systems preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
