Job Summary and Qualifications
  • You will function under the supervision of the Manger of Child and Family Services and will be a professional member of the multidisciplinary health care team who provides for the developmental, psychosocial, emotional and cognitive needs of hospitalized children of all ages (neonate, infant, child and adolescent) and their families as they interact with the health care environment
  • You will plan, coordinate and conduct therapeutic learning and play experiences to promote patient’s physical, emotional, social and cognitive development during hospitalization
  • You will provide general social and emotional support to pediatric patients and their families during their inpatient hospital stay
  • Through the specific use of medical play, patients are pre-operatively prepared for surgery and are offered procedural support for tests and medical procedures. Program goals are to provide positive, developmentally supportive experiences, which assist patients in reducing fear and anxiety associated with hospitalization
  • You will also be involved in training pediatric volunteers, and nursing staff in the social, emotional, and cognitive needs of pediatric patients and will be responsible for supporting patients in the Children's Emergency Department and throughout Sunrise Children's Hospital

What qualifications you will need:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Child Life, Child Development, Counseling Psychology or a closely related field is required
  • Completion of Child Life Internship (600 hours) is required
  • Certification as a Child Life Specialist must be obtained within 6 months of hire
  • AHA BLS is required within 30 days of hire
  • Minimum one-year experience working with children in a health care setting preferred
