Position Summary:

The Inventory Accounting Analyst is responsible for maintaining the financial integrity of inventory records within the company's ERP system. This role ensures inventory transactions are recorded accurately, investigates and resolves variances, supports inventory valuation and month-end close activities, and helps ensure system inventory quantities reflect actual physical stock. The Inventory Accounting Specialist is a key link between Accounting, Production, Purchasing and Warehouse operations, supporting accurate inventory reporting and financial results.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Inventory Transaction Accounting & Reconciliation

  • Enter and process inventory transactions in the ERP system, including receipts, transfers, and adjustments to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Verify that transaction quantities, part numbers, and locations are accurate before posting.
  • Reconcile discrepancies between system records and physical counts and escalate variances that cannot be resolved.
  • Support cycle counts and periodic physical inventories and post the resulting adjustments.

Production Order Review

  • Review open and completed production orders for accurate material consumption and finished goods reporting.
  • Confirm that material components issued to orders match the bill of materials and reported production quantities.
  • Identify and follow up on production orders with missing, incomplete, or inconsistent transactions.
  • Coordinate with production and scheduling teams to resolve discrepancies or significant variances.

Scrap and Adjustments

  • Record scrap transactions and inventory adjustments accurately, with proper reason codes and documentation.
  • Review scrap reporting for reasonableness and flag unusual trends or quantities.
  • Ensure adjustments are supported by appropriate approvals and backup documentation.
  • Help maintain records that support scrap and yield reporting.

General

  • Participate in month-end inventory close activities and reconciliations.
  • Assist with inventory valuation reviews and investigate inventory adjustments.
  • Support internal and external audit requests related to inventory records and transactions.
  • Follow all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a cost accounting, inventory accounting or inventory control role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience entering transactions in an ERP or inventory management system.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with numbers and data entry.
  • Basic proficiency with spreadsheets and standard office software.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem solving and clear/organized communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with production orders, bills of materials, and scrap/yield concepts.
  • Experience with specific ERP/MES system [e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365, SAP, Oracle].
