Job description

Position Summary

The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records and ensuring material availability to support production schedules in a fast-paced electronic contract manufacturing environment. This position plays a critical role in inventory accuracy, cycle counting, material transactions, receiving verification, stockroom organization, and material traceability. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced with electronic components, ERP systems, and manufacturing inventory processes.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Inventory Management

  • Maintain accurate inventory records within the ERP system.
  • Perform daily inventory transactions including receipts, issues, transfers, adjustments, and returns.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies and transaction errors.
  • Monitor inventory levels and identify potential shortages, excess inventory, or obsolete materials.
  • Support inventory audits and annual physical inventory counts.

Cycle Counting & Accuracy

  • Execute daily and weekly cycle count programs.
  • Analyze count variances and determine root causes.
  • Implement corrective actions to improve inventory accuracy.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy targets of 98% or greater.

Material Traceability

  • Ensure proper lot code, date code, and serial number traceability requirements are maintained.
  • Verify material labeling and storage practices comply with company procedures and customer requirements.
  • Support ISO 9001, ISO 13485, ITAR, and customer-specific traceability requirements.

Receiving & Material Verification

  • Verify incoming materials against purchase orders, packing slips, and receiving documentation.
  • Confirm quantity, part number, revision level, manufacturer, and date code accuracy.
  • Coordinate with Quality and Purchasing regarding discrepancies or non-conforming materials.
  • Ensure materials are properly identified, labeled, and stored.

Production Support

  • Issue materials to production work orders.
  • Perform material staging and kitting verification activities.
  • Process material returns from production and update inventory accordingly.
  • Support production teams with material availability inquiries and shortages.

Stockroom Organization

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and controlled stockroom environment.
  • Ensure proper ESD handling and storage practices are followed.
  • Manage FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory rotation.
  • Monitor shelf-life controlled materials and identify items approaching expiration.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Generate inventory reports and KPI metrics.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives focused on inventory accuracy and material flow.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining inventory control procedures and work instructions.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing and 5S initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years of inventory control, stockroom, warehouse, or material management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems (Sage 100, Epicor, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or similar).
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and inventory reconciliations.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) or PCB assembly environment.
  • Familiarity with electronic components, date codes, lot traceability, and moisture-sensitive devices (MSDs).
  • Understanding of ESD handling requirements.
  • Experience supporting ISO 9001, ISO 13485, aerospace, defense, or medical manufacturing environments.
