Job description

Bring your purchasing/inventory management background to a growing industry leader in the industrial gas/welding supply space that can offer you competitive compensation, excellent benefits, and career advancement opportunities in a high visibility role.

Make your mark with a company that values you, invests in your future, and is constantly growing.

Hohenschild Welders Supply, a leading local full-service welding supply distributor, is seeking a Purchasing/Inventory Manager to join our team in Kansas City, MO.

If you at least 3 years of warehouse and/or purchasing experience, Hohenschild wants to hear from you! Experience in the industrial gas/welding supply industry is preferred but not required.

Why Purchasing/Inventory Managers join the Hohenschild team:
  • Unbeatable benefits package including medical, dental, vision, paid time off, 401k, and more!
  • Gain knowledge of a large, global industry that isnโ€™t going anywhere! You will learn the ins and outs of the world of welding supplies. Our welding materials will always be needed and in high demand. This is valuable knowledge that will help you to grow your skillset and enhance your career!
  • Competitive pay, based on your experience and background.
  • Opportunities for advancement: Hohenschild is always looking for key players to professionally develop and move into higher level roles.
  • Experience the best of both worlds working for a local business with large-company backing!
Requirements:
  • 5 years industry experience in the industrial gas/welding supply industry is preferred.
  • 3-5 years warehouse/purchasing experience required.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in business related field or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be able to lead and motivate a team.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to solve practical problems; requires solid decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently, establish priorities, manage time effectively, and accomplish objectives.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be organized, have good reasoning skills and time management skills.
  • Ability to analyze sales and inventory data to inform purchasing decisions.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, as well as inventory/purchasing software and Internet use.
Essential duties/responsibilities:
  • Treat every interaction โ€“ with customers, vendors, and co-workers โ€“ as an opportunity to represent Hohenschild with professionalism and expertise.
  • Maintain inventory stock levels aligned with sales trends and product demand โ€“ keep consistent sellers and fast-moving items in stock while avoiding re-orders of slow-moving equipment; base all purchasing decisions based on sales history and turnover data.
  • Proactively order and stock for known upcoming demand when advance notice is provided (e.g., student kits, seasonal items, and scheduled programs).
  • Complete daily purchase order placement efficiently, allowing sufficient time for cycle counts, receiving, and store support duties.
  • Check in and receive incoming product, verifying shipment accuracy against purchase orders; resolve freight problems including damaged goods and shipping errors.
  • Perform accurate and timely cycle counts, prioritizing high-dollar and fast-moving items; process adjustments promptly, proactively resolve count discrepancies and shortages, and maintain audit-ready inventory records at all times.
  • Identify and dispose of dead inventory; track and ship all returned items to vendors for credit and mis-shipments.
  • Provide active support to inside sales and assist in the store as workload allows.
  • Facilitate communication among purchasing, warehouse, inside sales, and accounts payable; maintain high attention to detail with inventory contracts and supplier agreements.
  • Demonstrate dependable attendance and work habits; adhere to company policies and procedures as well as all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
