Job description

Material Handler

The material handler is responsible for the organization of storage of physical movement of department materials. This includes putting away inbound material, organizing materials on storage racks, gathering materials needed in production or for shipments and other actives required to control inventory in the department.

Maintaining accurate movement of these materials in SAP by issuing materials to Work Orders, completing Cycle Counts and other tasks as need to maintain inventory control.

The goal of a Material Handler is to improve inventory accuracy, reduce stock outs and reduce production downtimes, thereby improving OTD to customers.

Essential Duties:

  • Put away inbound materials per FIFO (First In First Out) method.
  • Pick materials for work orders in support of production needs.
  • Kit materials for kits for shipment.
  • SAP material transactions for material movements.
  • Organize material storage shelves for efficient picking of materials.
  • Maintain storage location data in SAP.
  • Transacting materials to work orders and within SAP to other departments.
  • Maintaining material on kanban racks and notifying buyers of the need to release material.
  • Cycle counting of materials.

Additional Duties:

  • Assist material gathering of raw materials for shipping requirements.
  • Assist in organization of material storage within the department, not just for raw materials, but for WIP, FG, overflow materials and other materials in support of production.
  • Notifying buyers / materials team of lower the anticipated inventory levels.
  • Maintain control over the taking of materials from the shelving (eventually the only person taking materials).
  • Assisting / Leading in possible set up of a stock room.

Essential Requirements:

  • Solid organizational skills and a neat streak.
  • Solution oriented focus.
  • Ability to work independently managing multiple tasks.
  • Comfortable with computers and challenging computer programs like SAP and Excel.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Able to use MS office products.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Analytical Thinking.

Educational Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent.
