Job description

Position Summary

The Inventory Control & Systems Manager is responsible for leading inventory accuracy, inventory control processes, transaction integrity, and system utilization across the organization. This role serves as the business owner for inventory-related processes within NetSuite, RF-SMART, and other operational systems while partnering closely with Production, Warehouse Operations, Purchasing, Logistics, Accounting, and Supply Chain teams.

The position is accountable for reducing inventory variances, improving inventory visibility, strengthening process controls, and ensuring accurate movement of raw materials, work-in-process (WIP), packaging, supplies, and finished goods throughout the organization. This role will lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on inventory accuracy, transaction discipline, cycle counting, process standardization, and system adoption.

This position creates a single point of accountability for inventory accuracy, inventory systems, and inventory process discipline across the organization. The role is intended to reduce inventory adjustments and write-offs, improve transaction accuracy, strengthen system utilization, and support operational scalability as the company continues to grow and integrate additional locations.

Key Performance Areas (Essential Functions of the Position)

Inventory Control Leadershipย 

  • Own company-wide inventory accuracy metrics and reporting.
  • Develop and manage an inventory control strategy that supports operational and financial objectives.
  • Establish inventory governance, controls, policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Lead root-cause analysis for inventory discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
  • Drive accountability for inventory accuracy across Operations, Warehousing, Purchasing, and Supply Chain.

Inventory Accuracy & Cycle Countsย 

  • Design and manage cycle count programs for raw materials, packaging, supplies, WIP, and finished goods.
  • Monitor inventory adjustments and identify trends, risk areas, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Investigate inventory variances and ensure timely resolution.
  • Coordinate physical inventory counts and reconciliation activities.
  • Partner with Accounting during month-end and year-end inventory reconciliation processes.

Systems Ownership & Developmentย 

  • Serve as the business owner for NetSuite inventory functionality, RF-SMART, scanning systems, and inventory-related technologies.
  • Ensure inventory transactions are performed accurately and consistently within company systems.
  • Identify opportunities to automate inventory processes and improve system utilization.ย 
  • Lead testing, validation, and implementation of inventory-related system enhancements.
  • Develop reporting, dashboards, and KPI scorecards to support inventory management.

Process Improvementย 

  • Analyze inventory flow from receiving through production, warehousing, transfers, and shipment.
  • Improve inventory transaction accuracy and real-time visibility.
  • Develop and maintain standard inventory procedures for receiving, put-away, material staging, production consumption, WIP tracking, transfers, finished goods movements, and inventory adjustments.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects focused on reducing inventory errors and operational waste.

Cross-Functional Collaborationย 

  • Partner with Purchasing to improve inventory planning and material accountability.
  • Work with Production leaders to improve inventory consumption accuracy and reporting.
  • Collaborate with Warehouse teams to strengthen inventory handling processes.
  • Support Accounting by ensuring accurate inventory valuation and transaction integrity.
  • Provide inventory-related training and coaching across departments.

Data & Reportingย 

  • Develop and maintain inventory performance metrics, dashboards, variance reports, and executive summaries.
  • Present inventory performance and improvement initiatives to leadership teams.
  • Prepare monthly inventory analysis with clear root-cause themes, corrective actions, and ownership.

Experiences / Education Requirements

Educationย 

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business Administration, Accounting, Logistics, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experienceย 

  • 5+ years of inventory control, warehouse operations, supply chain, manufacturing operations, or ERP systems experience.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing, agriculture, food production, consumer packaged goods, or related industries strongly preferred.
  • Experience implementing or managing ERP inventory systems.

Technical Skillsย 

  • Strong ERP experience; NetSuite preferred.
  • Experience with RF-SMART or similar warehouse management/scanning systems.
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis capabilities.
  • Experience creating dashboards, reports, and KPI scorecards.
  • Understanding of inventory accounting principles and inventory valuation concepts.

Working Conditions

General Manufacturing Environment:

Work is regularly performed inside the plant and in the surrounding grounds and facilities. Because of this, employees are frequently exposed to adverse weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, wind, rain and snow. Lighting varies based on the season, weather and conditions in the plant. Employees regularly work near moving mechanical parts, material handling equipment and are exposed to ergonomic hazards, noise and dust.

Additional work is performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Typical repetitive office work- PC, telephone, and live meetings.

Physical Requirements:

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

While performing the duties of the job the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, read, write and communicate in fluent English. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms along with frequent lifting, pushing/pulling of items 30-50 pounds, and operating machinery or equipment. There is occasional climbing, kneeling, and working in confined spaces.
