Job description

The Retail Assistant is responsible for the daily management of the retail operation and works closely with the golf and caddy services operation. Responsibilities include but not limited to the tagging of merchandise, the displaying of merchandise, and the selling of merchandise to all guests of the resort. Responsible for the cleanliness of the golf shop while ensuring the merchandise displays are properly stocked and organized by communicating with the Visual Merchandise Coordinator, Retail Manager, and The Director of Retail. Other responsibilities include checking guests in for their tee times, facilitating any changes and communicating those changes to the golf and caddy services team via radio and/or phone call. Responsible for tee time review for the following day and informing the caddy manager of any changes in caddy services. Other duties include handling cash and credit transactions, handling gift card transactions, and interacting with guests and other associates within the resort. This will entail providing information to guests and handling any and all requests with a positive attitude in a friendly, professional manner.

Essential Functions:

  • Be knowledgeable of all merchandise stocked in the golf shop. Sell merchandise and provide suggestions to guests as appropriate to meet their needs. Assist customers with special merchandise orders. Refer guests to the online store when necessary. Ensure that the golf shop is maintained per cleanliness and appearance standards. Maintain clean, presentable, and fully stocked merchandise displays.
  • Assist in packing and unpacking inventory, arranging, and displaying golf shop inventory. Assist with physical inventory at month end in accordance with inventory procedures.
  • Check guests in for Tee times and facilitate any changes that need to be made while communicating via radio/email/or phone call to the Golf and Caddy Services Operation.
  • Schedule tee times and handle customer inquiries and complaints in accordance with operating policies and procedures.
  • Issue Rain Checks and Gift Cards and become fluent in Rain Check and Gift Card Transactions
  • Learn Rental Club Procedures and comply with rental club policies; Issue Rental Clubs when needed
  • Become familiar with Yellow Dog Inventory Control System and Agylysis POS system
  • Send No Show email to Resort Services at the completion of every close shift.
  • Collect cash and maintain your personal cash bank. Issue receipts for all merchandise sales, greens fees, cart/pull cart rental fees, and club rental fees
  • Answer phones, maintain pleasant and professional telephone manner at all times. Take messages for guests who may be on course.
  • Interact with guests in a congenial and professional manner. Assist guests with information regarding tournaments, special events, club activities, policies, etc.
  • Be aware of the daily Scoop Sheet and Resumes and assist with tournaments, group outings, and special events. Ensure efficient operation and coordination of golf shop, cart service, and other services as applicable.

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: One year experience in golf shop and/or customer service/retail sales environment preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong Communication Skills
  • Demonstrated quality written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Read and write (English).
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems and efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Give and/or follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Requires working knowledge of computers and related software programs, cash registers, and other technical equipment. Excellent communication and management capabilities
