Job description

Key Results:

Responsible for the day-to-day safety, sales, profitability, and operation of a GoMulch wholesale/retail landscaper depot location. Supervision of store staff. Inventory control and management. Provide superior customer satisfaction.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Champions the ALL4Zero Safety Program, establishing the vision of a zero-injury culture.
  • Complies with and ensures that store staff follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Oversee daily store operations - directing and training employees and interfacing with customers.
  • Ensure store is opened and closed on time; alarms are set, and all security measures are in place.
  • Be a hands-on leader with knowledge of all positions. Routinely flow to the work (both inside the store and outside in the yard) to meet customer expectations.
  • Ensure sales, profitability and inventory accuracy goals are met.
  • Adhere to preventive maintenance schedules and daily Safety/PM checks to maintain equipment and machinery such as forklifts, bucket loaders, delivery trucks and office equipment.
  • Responsible for the housekeeping/cleanliness of the store and yard to provide a safe, professional and positive shopping experience for customers.
  • Display merchandise in a professional, well-organized, neat and clean manner.
  • Responsible for maintaining the building and yard in excellent condition. Notify supervisor when resources and/or funding are required.
  • Inventory Control:
    • Place orders for product transfers. Verify receipts and enter into Eagle software.
    • Conduct routine cycle counts. Investigate and resolve any discrepancies.
    • Maintain records for horticultural waste (incoming, outgoing, etc.), if applicable.
    • Ensure customers pay before being loaded. Yard worker must verify invoice before loading customer vehicle.
  • This is a hands-on position. The store manager is responsible for both performing and appropriately delegating key tasks to include: sales; answering phone calls; processing phone orders; promptly attending to customers; operating cash register; processing credit cards and credit applications; processing customer checks; loading customer vehicles; and verifying customer delivery load assistance.
  • Use of Eagle accounting and point of sale software for sales; billing; customer information; inventory; pricing; customer orders; closing of daily sales and posting of invoices to Accounts Receivable.
  • Cash management: processing cash and check payments; handling and safeguarding petty cash of $300; and making daily bank deposits.
  • Provide technical agronomic advice and product knowledge to customers.
  • Gain an understanding of local market trends and the competitive landscape.
  • Provide training and coaching to direct reports relative to store procedures and product knowledge.
  • Collaborate with General Manager and Human Resources to administer counseling and discipline to direct reports as needed.
  • Represent the company in a positive professional manner with employees, customers and vendors.
  • Resolve customer issues in a positive manner. Escalate to the General Manager if unable to resolve at the local level.
  • Follow-up on delivery and billing issues and provide a solution to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Perform annual performance reviews for direct reports during their anniversary month. Collaborate with the General Manager for direct report merit increases.
  • Able to operate forklift and bucket loader to move material from one location to another.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Experience and Education:

  • High School diploma or GED or 1-3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Associate degree or trade school education preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Certificate, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Florida driver’s license and good driving record required.

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety policies, operating and maintenance instructions, and other policy and procedures. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and employees.
  • Command of the English language is mandatory. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • The employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • The employee is required to frequently stand use hands to finger; handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel; crouch or crawl.
  • The employee must have the capability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.
  • Noise levels are usually moderate but may be loud at times when working near machinery.
