Job description

IEM is looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Materials Planning Specialist to join our manufacturing team in Surrey, B.C. In this mid-level role, you will be responsible for coordinating production scheduling, managing inventory levels, and ensuring materials and finished goods flow efficiently through our facility. You will serve as a key link between production, purchasing, logistics, and customer service teams.

Please note: This position requires 100% in-office presence in our Surrey, B.C. offices and does not offer remote work.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the Production Scheduler to support schedule adherence, flag inventory-driven constraints, and communicate material availability impacts on production timelines
  • Monitor raw material, WIP (work-in-progress), and finished goods inventory levels to ensure adequate supply without excess
  • Conduct regular cycle counts and physical inventory audits; investigate and resolve discrepancies
  • Coordinate with procurement to ensure timely purchasing of materials based on production requirements and lead times
  • Analyze inventory data and production metrics to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement
  • Maintain accurate records in the ERP/MRP system (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Infor) including BOMs, routings, and inventory transactions
  • Communicate production status, delays, and capacity constraints to relevant stakeholders
  • Work closely with the warehouse team to ensure proper storage, labeling, and organization of inventory
  • Support new product launches by coordinating material readiness and production ramp-up plans
  • Assist in developing and enforcing inventory control policies and procedures
  • Generate and distribute production and inventory reports to management on a regular basis
  • The candidate will be expected to perform additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in production planning, inventory control, or a related role within a manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Infor, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, BOMs, and supply chain principles
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work cross-functionally

Preferred:

  • APICS CPIM or CSCP designation (or in progress)
  • Familiarity with demand forecasting and capacity planning
