What does an inventory associate do?

An inventory associate is an individual that is responsible for maintaining the proper product inventory for a given organization. As an inventory specialist, your duties include making sure that items are ordered and properly delivered, ensuring that shelves are well stocked with sufficient quantities of specific products, and keeping these items readily available in the warehouse or storage room. About The Opportunity
We are hiring a Associate Director, Inventory Data to lead the integrity, governance, and financial correctness of the data that underpins inventory, cost of goods sold, and product costing. This is a senior cross-functional role for someone who can operate at the intersection of finance, operations, systems, product, and analytics to help ensure that inventory-related data is accurate, auditable, explainable, and trusted across the business. The right candidate brings a combination of inventory process fluency, financial rigor, systems thinking, and hands-on analytical capability. You know how operational events become financial outcomes, and you know how to design the controls, validations, and governance needed to make that process reliable at scale.
The Impact You'll Make

  • Represent Finance Data & Systems in evaluating and shaping decisions that impact the financial integrity of core inventory-related datasets, including inventory transactions and balances, purchase orders, receiving, bill of materials, product and vendor master data, and unit-of-measure logic

  • Design and maintain robust validation routines that keep inventory data complete, accurate, and consistent across systems

  • Investigate data anomalies, quantify business and financial impact, identify root causes, and drive issues through to resolution

  • Build scalable exception management processes that reduce recurring problems and improve upstream data quality

  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Operations, Procurement, Accounting, and Data teams on workflows and system changes that affect inventory, costing, invoicing, and reporting

  • Review requirements and designs for inventory-related changes to ensure financial implications are understood and addressed before launch

  • Develop reconciliations, dashboards, and reporting that improve visibility into inventory accuracy, waste, costing and stock movements

  • Help strengthen the company's control environment, reporting reliability, and operational decision- making through better data ownership and governance

  • What Success Looks Like : In this role, you will serve as the senior owner of inventory data as a source of financial truth. You will help the company move from reactive issue resolution and manual reconciliation toward a more proactive, governed, and scalable model. Success means:

  • Confidence in inventory balances, costing, and margin data

  • Faster detection and resolution of exceptions

  • Better alignment between operational systems and financial reporting needs

  • Stronger readiness for close, audit, and ongoing business scale

  • Clearer ownership and accountability for one of the most critical data domains in the company

What You Bring To The Table

  • 7+ years of experience across inventory finance, operations finance, inventory product ownership, or similar fields

  • Deep understanding of how inventory activity flows through operational systems into accounting and financial reporting

  • Strong accounting foundation in inventory and COGS, including standard costing, bills of materials, and inventory valuation

  • Strong experience with reconciliations, exception management, and data quality controls in complex or fast-changing environments, including building automated reconciliations, KPI frameworks, dashboards, and data quality monitoring

  • Hands-on SQL proficiency sufficient to investigate and reconcile large inventory datasets independently - multi-table joins across transactional and master data, common table expressions, window functions (running balances, deduplication, period-over-period movement), conditional aggregation, date and period logic, point-in-time cost and price lookups, and multi-level bill of materials

  • Experience with a cloud data warehouse (BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, or similar) and authoring automated data quality tests, together with fluency in modern reporting and data tools and advanced Excel

  • Experience in fast-growing, operationally complex environments that involve manufacturing or multi-site production

  • Exposure to audit readiness, internal controls, or pre-IPO environments

  • Proven ability to work effectively across Finance, Operations, Product, and Data teams

  • Ability to translate complex system behavior into clear business and financial insight for senior stakeholders

  • A track record of bringing structure and clarity to ambiguous, high-impact problems

  • You are comfortable moving between executive-level conversations, detailed operational workflows, and technical data discussions. You can see both the operational reality and the financial consequence-and you know how to connect the two.
