Medical Director, Interventional Radiology | Sign-On Bonus Available

VHC Health – Arlington, Virginia

VHC Health is seeking a visionary and collaborative physician leader to serve as Medical Director of Interventional Radiology. This is a unique opportunity to lead and shape a comprehensive, growing interventional radiology program providing both inpatient and outpatient services within one of the region’s most respected independent health systems.

Opportunity Highlights

The Medical Director will provide strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for the Interventional Radiology program across inpatient and outpatient settings. This individual will partner closely with hospital administration, radiology leadership, vascular surgery, oncology, hepatology, nephrology, trauma, emergency medicine, and surgical services to further develop a comprehensive IR service line that supports the growing needs of the community.

VHC Health’s Interventional Radiology program is supported by experienced technologists, dedicated nursing staff, advanced imaging capabilities, and a collaborative procedural environment that continues to expand in both complexity and volume. The program performs a broad range of minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and is well-positioned for continued growth in oncology interventions, vascular disease management, image-guided procedures, and ambulatory procedural care.

Interventional Radiology Services Provided Include:

  1. Oncology
  2. Image-guided biopsies
  3. Tumor Ablation
  4. Y-90 Radioembolization


Vascular

  1. Peripheral angiography and stent placement
  2. Thrombolysis/thrombectomy
  3. AV fistula and graft interventions
  4. IVC filter placement/removal
  5. Embolization
  6. TIPS


Non-Vascular

  1. Para/Thoracentesis
  2. Nephrostomy, Gastrostomy, and Gastrojejunostomy tube placement
  3. Myelogram


Women’s & Men’s Health

  1. Uterine or Prostate embolization
  2. Hysterosalpingography (HSG)
  3. Fallopian tube recanalization


Pain and Musculoskeletal

  1. Bone biopsies
  2. Joint & Spine injections
  3. Vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty


Neuro Intervention

  • Neuro interventional procedures (preferred; at least one physician will support stroke intervention in collaboration with neurology)

The incoming leader will have the opportunity to:

  1. Lead the continued growth and strategic direction of the Interventional Radiology program
  2. Recruit, mentor, and develop additional IR physicians and APP support
  3. Expand clinical partnerships across oncology, vascular, hepatobiliary, and surgical specialties
  4. Advance quality, safety, operational efficiency, and patient experience initiatives
  5. Participate in program development, innovation, and procedural expansion opportunities
  6. Build relationships with referring physicians and community providers throughout Northern Virginia
  7. Maintain an active clinical practice with a balanced mix of procedural and leadership responsibilities

Candidate Qualifications

  1. Board Certified in Diagnostic Radiology with fellowship training in Interventional Radiology
  2. Board Certified/Eligible in Interventional Radiology/Diagnostic Radiology (IR/DR)
  3. Eligible for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  4. Minimum 3 years of hospital-based Interventional Radiology experience required; 5+ years strongly preferred. Prior formal or informal leadership or assistant leadership role within an IR program or service line is highly desirable
  5. Strong interest in program building, physician engagement, and multidisciplinary collaboration
  6. Neuro interventional radiology skills preferred (at least one member of the IR team will be required to support stroke intervention services in collaboration with Dr. Kim and the neurology team)
  7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a hospital-based clinical environment with strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
