Job description

The Senior Medical Interpreter provides advanced interpretation and translation services, and supports quality standards by mentoring and training less experienced interpreters in effective techniques, ethics, and best practices.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provides interpretation services for patients, families, providers, and staff in a variety of clinical and non-clinical settings, ensuring accurate and culturally responsive communication.
  • Translates medical and non-medical documents, including discharge instructions, patient education materials, and departmental communications, in accordance with established standards.
  • Serves as a resource to less experienced interpreters, providing structured mentoring, coaching, and modeling of best practices in interpretation and translation.
  • Contributes to onboarding and evaluation of new interpreters by conducting skill assessments, sharing observations with leadership, and recommending development plans.
  • Partners with department leadership to review and enhance training curricula, interpretation workflows, and quality improvement initiatives related to language access services.
  • Participates in departmental initiatives, workgroups, and strategic projects to improve interpreter services and support organizational goals.
  • Maintains proficiency in medical terminology across specialties and ensures team adherence to terminology standards.
  • Uses the electronic medical record (EMR) to document interpretation activity, track data, and support compliance; trains junior staff in appropriate EMR use related to interpretation services.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Degrees
    • High School diploma or GED
  • Experience
    • Spoken and written fluency in Spanish, English or other foreign language with a minimum of a combination of three (3) years of translation/interpretation experience.
  • Licenses & Certifications
    • Certified as a Bridging the Gap (BTG) Medical Interpreter or equivalent is required at the time of hire.

Schedule/Shift
  • 80hrs FT
  • Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
Hourly Range: $24.01 to $36.01
