Position Overview:
PCES is seeking a skilled Educational Interpreter to provide American Sign Language (ASL) services to high school students at Chesterton High School who are deaf or hard of hearing. The interpreter will support communication access throughout the school day ensuring that students can fully participate in their educational experience.
This role is vital in fostering an inclusive learning environment and helping students develop both academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide ASL interpretation in classroom instruction, assemblies, school events, and other academic settings.
  • Facilitate communication between deaf or hard of hearing students and teachers, staff, and peers.
  • Interpret in a manner that reflects the student's communication mode and level of understanding.
  • Assist in fostering independence and self-advocacy skills in students.
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to ensure that educational materials and instructions are accessible.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and ethical standards.
  • Stay current with professional practices, including ongoing training and certification requirements.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required); associate's or bachelor's degree in interpreting or a related field (preferred).
  • EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score of 3.5 or higher, or state-recognized credential.
