Job Title: Metallurgist / Quality Laboratories Manager

Location Base: Cheyenne, WY 
Position Type: Full-Time, Salary Position

Salary: Between $100,000 - $115,000 based off experience.
Industry: Steel Manufacturing / Structural Tube Production (ASTM A500)

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and leadership-driven Metallurgist to oversee our dual-laboratory quality operations for our Companies in Cheyenne, Wyoming & Rancho Cucamonga, CA. In this role, you will serve as the primary technical authority for our cold-formed welded structural tubing mill. You will directly manage two distinct laboratories in CA & WY Chemical & Feedstock Control and Mechanical & Destructive Testing ensuring 100% compliance with ASTM A500 standards.

The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between laboratory data and mill floor operations.

Key Responsibilities

Multi-Lab Leadership & Quality Management

  • Direct Dual-Lab Operations: Oversee daily testing workflows across two labs
  • Compliance & Audits: Maintain strict adherence to ISO 9001 and ASTM A500 guidelines. Serve as the lead technical contact during external client and regulatory audits.
  • Equipment Calibration: Manage preventative maintenance and calibration schedules for Universal Testing Machines (UTM), spectrometers, hardness testers.

Process Metallurgy & Technical Support

  • Material Certification: Review and authorize Mill Test Reports (MTRs) and disposition non-conforming material.
  • Vendor Qualification: Evaluate incoming master coil chemistry and mechanical certifications to ensure supplier compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related engineering field.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep familiarity with carbon steel properties, ASTM A500 specifications, and HF-ERW manufacturing.
  • Hands-on Skills: Proficiency in interpreting microstructures (ferrite/pearlite alignment, decarburization, HAZ evaluation) and operating mechanical testing equipment.
