Installs and maintains network server hardware and software. Mitigates hardware and software vulnerabilities, upgrades and patches software and firmware for network and server equipment. Monitors core network facilities and functions; conducts physical inspections.

Administers the active directory and hosted applications. Works with Network Administrator to maintain on- and off-site back-ups. Administers network user access, permissions, and connectivity.

Administers physical security and emergency notification devices. Installs and repairs fiber optic and twisted-pair cabling. Maintains technical documentation, network topology, and reference materials.

Administers telephony hardware and software. Responds to after-hours emergencies. Performs related duties.

Knowledge of the principles used in analyzing, evaluating, modifying, installing, maintaining, expanding, networking, and testing information systems and technology. Knowledge of network protocols. Knowledge of network management tools and methods.

Skill in troubleshooting and resolving computer hardware and software problems. Skill in training end-users and support personnel. Skill in problem solving.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The Information Technology Manager assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results. GUIDELINES Guidelines include industry best practices; manufacturer installation, operations, and repair manuals; ICC Building Codes, security policies, and department and city policies and procedures.

The purpose of this position is to maintain the city's information technology networks. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of a variety of city operations. CONTACTS Contacts are typically with coworkers, other city employees, vendors, contractors, and the general public.

Contacts are typically to exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.

The work is typically performed in an office, computer room, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, high voltage equipment, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY None. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for two to three years.
