Description

JOB DESCRIPTION: Provides staff supervision in a specialized clinical area (e.g. transplant, critical care, and/or nutrition support) and collaborates with departmental leadership in the design, implementation, and ongoing clinical pharmacy programs at Emory Healthcare. Collaborates with departmental and patient care leadership to develop, implement and evaluate the department's mission and service goals and objectives. Effectively manages employee performance to support providing quality, timely, and cost effective products and services to outpatients and other customers. Actively participates on hospital committees and provides specialized pharmacotherapeutic representation in the decision making process. Assists with efforts to secure funding for clinical research. Writes and prepares professional articles and papers for publication and research. Participates in and supports research projects being conducted in the department. Initiates and regularly attends scheduled medical rounds to provide input on pharmacotherapy and to augment the education of medical interns and residents. Assists in training new employees, pharmacy students, and residents involved in clinical pharmacological activities. Serve as a model for providing direct patient care through excellent clinical skills and communications and by staying current with relevant literature. Provide daily patient profile review to assess, monitor and recommend appropriate drug therapy. Identify, resolve and /or prevent medication-related problems. Ensure appropriate therapy and outcomes. Make recommendations for improving upon any and all steps of the medication process.Maintains personal commitment to professional development and excellence. Meets departmental professional development requirements and expectations. Participates in/supports research projects which have major outcome or cost implications related to drug therapy. Writes and prepares pertinent professional material for publication and presentation.Work closely with leadership in developing system-wide metrics and processes for measuring the outcomes and impact of revised and/or new clinical programs. Provide reports demonstrating the impact of these programs.Takes a leadership role in ensuring staff's understanding of clinical department practices, standards, and policies. Augments the education of pharmacists, students, medical interns and residents. Assists with the training of new pharmacy employees. Creates professional development opportunities for the purpose of advancing pharmacists' skill sets as determined by the Pharmacy Practice Model.Design, implement, direct, and support departmental and/or system wide initiatives to enhance patient safety & outcomes, promoting learning, and contributing to innovative approaches to patient care.Performs related responsibilities as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • Eligible for Georgia Licensure. Candidate is required to be licensed in Georgia prior to official start date.
  • PGY1 and a PGY2 residency or equivalent experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required within 90 days and ACLS within 6 months of hire, if directly applicable to practice specialty. BCPS preferred. Masters degree preferred.
  • Healthcare Provider certifications required. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock , Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation , Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
