Team Summary

We operate missioncritical systems that enable Visa's clients and processors worldwide. As an Associate Systems Engineer, you'll join a global team that plans, implements, and supports secure, resilient endpoints and platforms-partnering closely with vendors and global support groups to deliver nimble, clientcentric solutions.

What a Associate Systems Engineer does at Visa

  • Provide project management, technical advice, and handson support to client institutions and processors-consistently exceeding customer expectations.

  • Coordinate projects endtoend with proper documentation, keep tasks and status up to date.

  • Create implementation scripts (Shell, python & more) for vendor field engineers and support teams to enable installation and activation.

  • Perform remote installations of Linux systems in partnership with onsite vendor engineers.

  • Work proactively with Global Support, clients, and vendors to deliver flexible solutions and resolve system problems quickly.

  • Manage customer satisfaction, commitment, and expectations to high service levels, handle escalations appropriately.

  • Ensure deployments follow Visa security guidelines, report and remediate any noncompliance.

  • Communicate and collaborate cordially within a global team across cultures and time zones.

  • Work with stakeholders to translate business problems into AI use cases, define requirements, and design solution architectures.

  • Collect, clean, and prepare data, build and train models (traditional ML and deep learning/LLMs), evaluate performance and iterate.

  • Design, build, and maintain agentic workflows where LLM "agents" can plan, call tools, and coordinate multistep tasks (e.g., retrieval, calling APIs, writing to databases).

  • Deploy models as APIs or services, integrate with existing applications, implement and tune orchestration around tools and plugins (MCPstyle connectors, functioncalling schemas, vector DBs), including prompt design, safety/guardrails, and evaluation of agent behavior. Ability to isolate and resolve critical system issues to minimize impact and downtime, strong analytical judgment under minimal supervision.

  • Participate in an oncall rotation to support multiple systems during offhours, work evenings/weekends as needed.

  • Provide weekly reporting for CMDB and BASE II records, act as Change & ServiceNow Coordinator to ensure incidents/changes comply with ITIL and ServiceNow rules.

  • Act as Inventory Record Coordinator to ensure accurate and timely inventory updates.

  • Partner with leaders to drive continuous improvement, team efficiency, and technical upskilling.

Work Hours & On Call
3-4 days at Ashburn office.
Rotating on call coverage, evening/weekend work when required for change windows or incidents.

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree, OR 3+ years of relevant work experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 or more years of work experience
  • Bachelor's + 1 year relevant experience or 3 years relevant experience.
  • Foundational Project Management certification, ITIL Foundation.
  • Proficiency in Python and shell scripting and familiarity with version control (Git), ability to automate routine admin and deployment tasks.
  • Experience with Linux system administration (preferably RHEL family distros).
  • Basic proficiency in HTML and a programming/scripting language ( Bash, Python).
  • Understanding of XML, JSON, XSLT.
  • Familiarity with encryption/security technologies such as SSL and IPsec.
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and statistics, including working with SQL
  • 1 year working experience in IT Operations & Delivery or strong internship/fresh graduate performance on technical interview tests.
  • Outstanding customer service skills and dedication to the service experience.
  • Demonstrated interest in continuous learning via online resources or formal training.
  • Project coordination experience.
  • Hands on experience with ServiceNow (Change/Incident/CMDB),
  • Red Hat certification (e.g., RHCSA, RHCE) or equivalent Linux certification.
  • Experience & proficiency in writing shell & python scripts and automations for infrastructure installs.
  • Experience with large language models and GenAI, including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, and evaluation of LLM-based applications
  • Hands-on work with agentic/LLM orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangChain, semantic routers, or similar) and tool-calling ecosystems (such as MCP-style connectors or function-calling schemas
  • Familiarity with Visa deployment/security standards and audit/compliance processes.
  • Vendor coordination and remote install support across global time zones.


U.S. Applicants Only

The estimated salary range for this positionis $88,000.00 to $ 136,900.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
