Full-time internship
Must be 21 years of age at the start of the internship!!

Please specify which season you are applying for.
Spring: January – May
Summer: May – August
Fall: August – December

Application deadlines:
Spring (January-May) deadline for applications is October 1st
Summer (May-August) deadline is March 1st
Fall (August-December) deadline is June 1st

The Rhino Intern is given the day-to-day responsibility of the Black Rhino herd.
Training will include (but is not limited to):
  • Preparation and feeding of diets
  • Cleaning and maintenance of the Black Rhino barn, yards and mechanical room
  • Stocking of feed, hay, alfalfa and produce
  • Completing daily reports for feed consumption, health notes and training schedules
  • General monitoring of animals’ health and welfare
  • Behavioral observations as needed
  • Reinforce trained behaviors with the black rhinos
  • Specific veterinary procedures (fecal sample collection, assist with blood collection, ultrasound procedure, semen collection and administration of medications)
  • Assist with other vet procedures
  • Completion of independent project
Desired Experience, Capabilities and Educational Skills:
Undergraduate degree in wildlife management, conservation biology, or a related scientific discipline attained prior to start of internship. Previous internships strongly recommended. You must also have a valid driver’s license.
Stipend/Housing: A $400/mo stipend (for expenses) and free onsite housing in a shared living environment is mandatory during your internship. If required, transportation to and from training area will be provided.
International students must have a J1 or B1 visa before arrival. Fossil Rim will not sponsor or assist with the visa process.
If selected, candidate must have a TB test conducted within 30 days prior to arrival for internship.
