PART TIME INTERIOR DESIGNER / DESIGN ASSISTANT

Location: Madison, Wisconsin

Position Type: Part-Time Internship (20 hours / week) | In-Person

Udvari-Solner Design Company is a full-service design practice based in Madison, Wisconsin. With over 35 years of experience in residential design, the studio has recently expanded to include a dedicated interior design department, offering a fully integrated approach to high-end residential projects.


Our work is rooted in a thoughtful, detail-driven process—where architecture and interiors are developed in tandem, and every material, finish, and furnishing is considered as part of a cohesive whole.



POSITION OVERVIEW

Udvari-Solner Design Company is seeking a Part-Time Interior Designer / Design Assistant to join our Madison studio and support our Lead Interior Designer on residential interior design projects.


This is a hands-on design role for someone who is organized, technically capable, and excited to contribute throughout the design process, from early concepts and client presentations through construction documentation, specifications, procurement, and project coordination.


The position will begin at approximately 20 hours per week, with the opportunity to evolve into a full-time role based on performance, commitment, studio needs, and mutual fit.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Working closely with the Lead Interior Designer, responsibilities may include:


  • Assist with residential interior design projects from concept through implementation
  • Participate in client meetings, site visits, and vendor meetings
  • Create and develop client presentations under the direction of the Lead Interior Designer
  • Prepare interior drawing sets in Revit and/or AutoCAD, including: Interior elevations, Finish plans, Electrical and lighting plans, & Cabinetry and millwork plans
  • Interior details and supporting construction documentation
  • Create and maintain specification schedules, project manuals, and specification sheets
  • Source furniture, lighting, plumbing, fabrics, finishes, materials, and other project selections
  • Coordinate samples and maintain project material libraries
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings with clients, vendors, showrooms, and project partners
  • Assist with project management, meeting agendas and notes, project schedules, and client deliverables
  • Communicate with vendors regarding product information, pricing, lead times, availability, and orders
  • Assist with procurement, purchasing, order tracking, and project installation coordination
  • Maintain organized and accurate project files, documentation, and specifications



QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with a strong combination of design sensibility, technical skills, organization, and communication.

Required / Preferred Experience:

  • Education or professional experience in Interior Design or a related field
  • Experience with Revit and/or AutoCAD
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Experience with Canva or similar presentation/design software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and changing priorities
  • Comfortable taking direction while also working independently and following tasks through to completion
  • Experience with residential interior design and construction documentation preferred
  • Experience with Studio Designer and/or Houzz Pro is a plus
  • Familiarity with procurement, specifications, and vendor coordination is a plus



SCHEDULE & STUDIO EXPECTATIONS

This is an in-person position at our Madison, Wisconsin studio, approximately 20 hours per week during our studio hours of Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM.


The schedule may consist of four-hour daily shifts or two full days plus one four-hour shift. We can be flexible around other work, school, or commitments; however, some schedule flexibility is required for client meetings. Meeting schedules may shift periodically based on client availability and project needs, and the employees may be asked to adjust their regular hours accordingly.


Consistent communication, reliability, and timely completion of deliverables are essential.

This part-time position is not currently eligible for benefits but has the potential to evolve into a full-time role based on performance, commitment, business needs, and mutual fit.
