Job description

Job Description Summary:
CES is looking for reliable, detail-oriented individuals to assist in performing compliance checks on local tobacco retailers to ensure the sale of tobacco products to underage purchaser is restricted. The inspection is used to establish a retailer's compliance with Federal Synar requirement of the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) regulations in coordination with Maine Department of Health and Human Services, Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Maine Office of the Attorney General. This work is conducted on a part-time, case-volume basis with flexibility relevant to individual and team schedule.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Travel with a Youth Intern; identify and verify site address provided
  • Facilitate and observe undercover buys in coordination with trained youth intern
  • Complete compliance check inspection form, detailing any violations, when applicable
  • Issue enforcement violations and review the NCAA with the establishment Collect, store, and deliver evidence for violations (i.e. tobacco products)
  • Canvass local areas to maintain retailer list, as applicable
  • Coordinate as needed with Liaison, Supervisor (Chaperone), and Interns
  • Follow all quality control standards and procedures set form by the program
  • Cooperate with OAG in preparing cases resulting from violations
Required qualifications/skills:
  • Must be an active or retired law enforcement officer, having successfully completed basic law enforcement academy training through Maine Criminal Justice Academy or equivalent out-of-state law academy.
  • Reliable transportation, meeting all Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicle laws and rules
  • Attention to detail
  • Strict adherence to program confidentiality requirements
  • Knowledge of chain of custody standards
Preferred qualifications/skills:
  • Experience in working with youth
Physical Requirements:
  • Drive to inspection locations
  • Ensure safety of program participants, to include Interns aged 16-20.
Other:
  • All Agents will complete all required training sessions: initial training, annual refreshers, ad-hoc
  • Pay - $29/hr.
  • Reimbursement for mileage
  • Must be able to undergo a background check meeting contract standards to become credentialed through Maine OAG.
