Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

Specialty Inspectors, LLC is currently looking for energetic, driven, and hardworking individuals to join our growing team. The Third-Party Inspector is responsible for conducting daily field inspections and soil density testing for residential projects in the assigned area, involving visual inspections during various stages of construction to confirm compliance with the approved design plans, documenting the observed conditions, and completing inspection reports. This is a field position and travel within the assigned area is required.

Prospective applicants must have keen attention to detail, be self-driven, be able to read blueprints and construction documents, understand construction methods and best practices, work independently, work on multiple projects concurrently, and produce accurate results while meeting deadlines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform visual inspections of residential construction in accordance with client requirements and company standards

  • Coordinate with Operations team to update inspection status and for timely completion; and inform Operations team and clients of pass/fail inspection results

  • Perform soil density testing on compacted soils for building pads

  • Prepare and maintain all required records and reports

  • Work with Operations team and clients to establish daily inspection schedules based on inspection types, locality, and priority

  • Assist with other inspection services and/or field materials testing as assigned

  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with clients

  • Escalate client concerns to immediate supervisor for prompt resolution

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate with internal cross-departmental teams, clients, and other stakeholders

  • Attends continuing education training sessions, including voluntary, mandatory, and those required to maintain certifications

  • Submits timely and accurate mileage, job costing, and other financial reporting

  • Monitors, reviews, and responds to all communication (email, phone, voicemail) in timely manner

  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures

  • Adhere to company communication standards

  • Maintains and protects all company equipment and supplies

  • Perform virtual inspections as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Detail oriented

  • Ability to describe in detail observations made at a job site

  • Ability to read blueprints and other construction documents

  • Good understanding of residential construction materials and methods including concrete, masonry, wood framing, and stucco

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Clear and effective oral and written communication skills

  • Good time-management and organizational skills

  • Excellent record-keeping abilities

  • Professional and team orientated

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Computer skills, including typing or browsing

  • Ability and willingness to travel in assigned area

  • Must be able to operate and use basic equipment (i.e.: hard hats, eye and hearing protection, ladders, general hand-held tools such as levels flashlights, tape measurer, and similar tools.)

  • Must be able to work in extreme climate conditions

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; walk, bend, reach, and climb in a job site setting

  • Ability to exert up to 35 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required

  • 5 years minimum of construction-related experience is required

  • Minimum, ICC Building Inspector Certifications (B1 and B2)

  • Possess OSHA 30-hour certification or the ability to obtain within 3 months of hire

  • Current driver's license, clean driving record
