Job Description:
UF Information Technology (UFIT) is currently seeking two talented and highly motivated part-time Support and Applications Interns to join Research Computing, a unit within UFIT. The interns will assist the RC Support and Services Team with developing support-focused internal CLI tools, databases, web applications, and APIs, as well as support request triage, application installation, reference data management, and other Tier 1 user support activities on the HiPerGator supercomputer.
The internship location is the New Physics Building on the main campus.
Some key responsibilities and characteristics of this position are:
- Development of support-related scripts/tools/databases/web applications
- Installation, troubleshooting, and HPC adaptation of research applications on HiPerGator
- Support service request triage
- Basic HPC user support via the ticketing system and Slack
Some key learning outcomes for the student intern are:
- Programming experience (support tool and web app development)
- Practical understanding of contemporary research computing infrastructure and applications
- HPC application installation skills
- Application troubleshooting and modification
- Identification, documentation, and execution of project tasks and performance objectives
- Developing customer service and communication skills that demonstrate openness, sensitivity, and the ability to interact respectfully with all people
