Job description

SUNLAND ASPHALT
Sunland Asphalt is looking for a career-minded Project Engineer to join our booming business in Phoenix, AZ. The Project Engineer will work directly for the Project Managers on construction projects. The successful candidate must have a basic understanding of project management, site development and critical path scheduling. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, enjoys working in both office and field environments, and thrives in a fast-paced construction setting.

Essential Responsibilities:
Project Support
  • Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with daily project management activities.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Help prepare Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, and change order documentation.
  • Maintain project files and documentation.

Field Coordination
  • Visit construction sites regularly to monitor progress and support field operations.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, surveyors, and inspectors.
  • Assist with tracking production quantities and project progress.
  • Help ensure work is completed according to plans and specifications.

Cost and Schedule Management
  • Assist with project scheduling and work planning.
  • Track material deliveries and subcontractor activities.
  • Support budget and cost tracking efforts.
  • Help prepare project reports and progress updates.

Quality and Safety
  • Promote and support company safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in project safety meetings and site inspections.
  • Assist with quality control documentation and inspections.
  • Help ensure compliance with project requirements and regulatory standards.

Technical Responsibilities
  • Assist with quantity takeoffs and earthwork calculations.
  • Review grading and utility plans.
  • Coordinate survey and layout activities.
  • Support project closeout documentation and final record keeping.

Qualifications
  • Degree or coursework in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field or 2 plus Years Experience In related field.
  • Strong interest in civil construction, grading, earthwork, and site development.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and construction plans.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, and Teams.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Internship, co-op, or field experience in construction or engineering.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam, Procore, AutoCAD Civil 3D, AGTEK, HCSS, or Microsoft Project.
  • Basic understanding of surveying, grading, or earthwork operations.
