Job description

Welcome to Amwins — where interns don't just learn the ropes, they help shape the future (and have a blast doing it).

We believe the best way to learn is by doing. That's why our internship program is designed to give you real-world experience, meaningful projects, and a chance to explore the insurance industry from the inside out. You won't be fetching coffee — you'll be building skills, making connections, and discovering what a career in risk management and insurance could look like for you. That's why our program was recognized as one of the 2025 RISE Elite 50 Internships.

Why Amwins?

We're not just a company — we're a culture. At Amwins, we:

  • Invest in our people through education, development, and mentorship.
  • Celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Give back through the Amwins Foundation and Summer of Service.
  • Are 43% employee-owned — because we believe in shared success.

Whether you're exploring career options or ready to dive into the insurance world, Amwins is the place to start.

Kickoff your journey with a Summer 2026 Group Benefits Internship in Atlanta, GA, with the option of part time work continuing during the school year with satisfactory completion of summer duties.

What You'll Do

As an intern, you'll:

  • Work alongside professionals who are passionate about what they do.
  • Gain exposure to different areas of the insurance industry — from brokerage and underwriting to client services and analytics.
  • Apply classroom knowledge to real business scenarios.
  • Contribute to projects that matter and make an impact.
  • Build relationships with mentors, teammates, and leaders across Amwins.

What You'll Gain

  • A deeper understanding of the risk management insurance market.
  • Hands-on experience that helps you test career paths without long-term commitment.
  • A network of professionals and peers who support your growth.
  • Core skills like communication, problem-solving, and teamwork — all essential for any career.

Tasks & Responsibilities

Amwins Accident & Health Underwriters (AAHU) is a Managing General Underwriter specializing in medical Stop Loss insurance for self-funded employer health plans. Our Operations team supports the full lifecycle of a Stop Loss policy — from initial RFP intake through underwriting, policy issuance, premium and claims administration. As an intern in this group, your day-to-day will rotate across three core functional areas throughout the year providing exposure to multiple functional areas within the company.

Underwriting Quote / RFP Intake (Summer — Peak Season July through Early October)

  • Log and track incoming Request for Proposal (RFP) submissions from brokers into our business management system (ESL).

Sold Case / Policy Issuance (Mid-October through Mid-January)

  • Support initial implementation tasks for New and Renewal sold Stop Loss cases, beginning with a close review of the Policy record in ESL against the sold Proposal signed by the broker or policyholder.
  • Generate the Stop Loss Application using established templates, review to ensure it reflects what was quoted and sold in the proposal, and email it to the appropriate broker contact for signature.
  • Conduct follow-up with brokers for return of signed Applications and other required post-sale documentation.
  • Assist with policy document and riders generation and quality review to ensure policy terms accurately reflect what was quoted and sold.
  • Help track outstanding implementation items and escalate delays per team guidelines.

Claims Intake (Mid-January through End of April)

  • Assist with intake and logging of Stop Loss claims submissions received from Third Party Administrators (TPAs) into the appropriate system of record.
  • Review incoming claims packages for documentation completeness and flag deficiencies for the claims team.
  • Support tracking of claims filing deadlines and assist with correspondence to TPAs regarding outstanding items.
  • Learn how specific and aggregate Stop Loss claims are processed, including how specific deductibles and aggregate accumulations are applied.

Year-Round & Development Activities

  • Participate in team meetings and cross-departmental shadowing to build a broad understanding of the Stop Loss MGU business model.
  • Contribute to a defined project in collaboration with your supervisor, aligned to team and AAHU business needs.
  • Complete self-guided learning on medical Stop Loss insurance concepts, self-funded plan mechanics, and the role of TPAs and brokers in the stop loss ecosystem.
  • Network and enjoy social outings with other Amwins interns.

Who We're Looking For

  • Students enrolled at an accredited college or university.
    • Preferably those completing their sophomore year in summer of 2026
  • Pursuing a degree in Business, Finance, Sales, Risk Management & Insurance, or a related field.
  • Recommended GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Students who are curious, driven, and eager to learn.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
