Have you ever wanted a career in Construction, but wanted to be a part of the Technical/Office team instead of the boots on the ground? Well, this may be the place for you. We are hiring for an Intern/Trainee position in their Drafting room. This is one of the largest Structural Steel Fabrication companies in the United States, specializing in all types of Structural steel Buildings.
This is a 3 – Month, Full-Time, internship opportunity with us as a Draftsman Trainee. This internship is for a Candidate who may not have the education, hands-on experience, or technical background normally required for the industry. Instead, this Internship will start from the ground up and introduce you to the Industry, Drafting Technology, Structural Steel, and Technical Graphics. During this Internship, a Candidate will learn on the job and be evaluated on their skills, with the end goal of Hiring the Candidate as a full-time employee on Successful completion of their internship.
Candidates should have a High School Diploma or equivalent. There are no additional educational requirements, although experience in Technical Graphics, Drafting Principles, and/or relevant education would be helpful to the candidate and preferred.
Candidates will be required to create, manipulate, and read Structural fabrication drawings, so the ability to read, visualize and comprehend these Technical Documents is imperative to the position. They should have intermediate Math skills in the areas of Basic Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry. Candidates must have advanced Computer skills, as most of their work will take place on the computer, with various software platforms including but not limited to: Autodesk, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office, Peddinghaus, Shop Data, SDS/2, Tekla. Candidates must be focused, very detail oriented, willing to learn from their mistakes and be able to work both individually, and in a small group.
Physical Requirements:
Candidates should expect to spend approximately six hours per day sitting and working at a computer. The remaining time would be spent walking or standing, with occasional handling of rolls of structural drawings. However, the Candidate may be required to enter the shop from time to time.
Training Information:
During this Internship, the Candidate will be expected to learn from on-the-job training in the following areas:

  • AISC Detailing for Steel Construction
  • Basic Drawing Reading/Technical Graphics
  • CAD Detailing
  • Data Entry/Inputting for various CNC Machines
  • Document Control
  • Document Processing/File Transmission
