Job description

Job Title: Structural Engineer

Duration: 3 month contract

Job Description

This Structural Engineer role focuses on steel structures within mining and bulk material handling projects, contributing to complex engineering solutions for a global organization while enjoying the close-knit feel of a small structural group. You will apply advanced structural engineering principles, support international projects, and help drive sustainable productivity in an environment that values collaboration, technical excellence, and environmental responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze steel structures for mining and bulk material handling applications, ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Perform structural calculations, including sizing of members, connection details, and steel connection design, using appropriate 3D analysis tools such as RISA.
  • Develop and review detailed structural drawings and models, coordinating with CAD resources and leveraging tools like Advanced Steel and SolidWorks where appropriate.
  • Provide technical input on structural engineering aspects for complex engineering projects, supporting multidisciplinary teams across global operations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in a small structural group to review designs, resolve engineering challenges, and maintain consistent design quality.
  • Participate in project meetings to communicate structural design concepts, constraints, and recommendations to internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of structural engineering practices, tools, and standards to enhance productivity and sustainability.
  • Support knowledge sharing within the team, including mentoring interns and early-career engineers as needed, in alignment with the company’s collaborative culture.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of calculations, design decisions, and project deliverables for future reference and quality assurance.

Essential Skills

  • Professional experience in structural engineering with a focus on steel structures.
  • Hands-on experience with 3D structural analysis tools, particularly RISA, including sizing members, defining connection details, and performing steel connection design.
  • Ability to interpret and produce structural calculations and design documentation for complex projects.
  • Background working on engineering projects, preferably involving mining or bulk material handling structures.
  • Proficiency in structural engineering fundamentals, including load paths, stability, and connection behavior.
  • Capability to work fully on-site in an office-based environment and collaborate closely with a small structural team.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in structural design and analysis.
  • Effective communication skills to explain technical concepts and coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with CAD tools and 3D modeling software such as Advanced Steel and SolidWorks.
  • Familiarity with Revit and general CAD drafting practices, which is beneficial but not required.
  • Exposure to projects in mining, bulk material handling, or related heavy industrial sectors.
  • Interest in mentoring interns and beginning engineers within a collaborative team environment.
  • Motivation to work on international projects and collaborate with colleagues from different regions.
  • Commitment to sustainable engineering practices and environmental responsibility in structural design.

Work Environment

This position is fully in-office with no travel requirements, offering a stable and predictable work schedule. You will join a small structural group of approximately four people, providing a close-knit, collaborative atmosphere while supporting complex projects for a global organization. The role involves working with structural analysis and design software such as RISA, Advanced Steel, SolidWorks, and occasionally Revit or CAD tools.
