The Office of Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes (ASPSA) is a comprehensive support program that strives to meet the academic, personal and professional development needs of all student-athletes, promoting excellence and effectiveness in undergraduate and graduate education as well as leadership and civic engagement.

Position Purpose

This full-time internship is intended to provide hands-on experience and prepare individuals to perform at a high level in full-time positions in academic support for student-athletes following the internship. The NC State Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes Internship Program has existed since 2005 and was recognized as the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) Model Practices Award winner in 2013.
This position is eligible for Temporary Employee benefits only - https://onboarding.ncsu.edu/tempperks/. Please note: Campus Parking pass cost $33-$40/month

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Supervise and monitor student-athletes, tutors, and mentors in daytime and evening structured study hall environments, including individual study and tutor sessions.
  • Facilitate the creation and regular updating of multiple administrative reports, including academic update reports (AURs), structured study hall attendance, and daily reports related to student academic progress and behavior.
  • Work closely with tutorial and mentoring program staff to set up and oversee group and one-on-one tutorial and mentoring sessions based on student-athlete performance and requests, including daily changes to student appointments.
  • Determine the academic support needs of an assigned group of student-athletes through regular one-on-one academic meetings and keep accurate records of grades reported.
  • Co-teach University Studies Courses (USC), which are designed to support first-year student-athletes in their transition from high school through the first year of college studies.
  • Assist in the day-to-day operation of at least one auxiliary area, including class attendance policy and USC curriculum.
  • Assist in engaging student-athletes in the course selection and registration process.
  • Design and present training to tutors and mentors on topics related to increasing effectiveness in working with students.
  • Participate in staff training and mandatory orientations on a variety of subjects related to academic support, including APR/eligibility, registration advising, and recruiting.
  • Assist with presentations made to prospective student-athletes during on-campus visits.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
