This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This role provides strategic leadership, development, and oversight of youth and adult sports programs at the Hogan Family YMCA branch. The Sports Director ensures high-quality, mission-driven sports programming that aligns with YMCA values, safety standards, and community needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Leadership & Strategy
  • Provide leadership for branch sports programs, ensuring consistency, quality, and mission alignment.
  • Develop and implement long-range sports program strategies that support youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
  • Serve as the branch subject-matter expert for sports programming.

Program Development & Operations
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of sports programs at the Hogan YMCA.
  • Ensure association standards, policies, and best practices for sports programs are being upheld.
  • Coordinate scheduling and utilization of branch and off-site facilities for sports activities and events.

Staff & Volunteer Leadership
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, and evaluate sports staff and volunteers.
  • Develop volunteer training systems, including coaching clinics and leadership development.
  • Conduct coach training sessions throughout the year.

Financial Management
  • Develop, manage, and monitor branch sports budgets to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Participate in annual budget planning and ensure responsible financial stewardship across all programs.

Marketing & Community Engagement
  • Collaborate with marketing and membership teams to promote sports programs and maximize participation.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with schools, leagues, and community organizations.
  • Support association-wide events, initiatives, and outreach efforts.

Mission Advancement
  • Promote and model YMCA values in all programs and interactions.
  • Provide leadership support for the Annual Giving Campaign and mission-driven initiatives.
  • Participate in association leadership teams, committees, and cabinets related to sports and youth development.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Ensure proper maintenance, safety, and inventory of sports facilities and equipment.
  • Maintain compliance with YMCA policies, risk management standards, and certification requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by association leadership.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in sports programming, recreation, or related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in staff supervision and program management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; YMCA operating systems preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends.
