Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position): 

The Football Data Entry / Film Data Assistant is an essential role within the St. Olaf Football program, responsible for inputting accurate data into our film editing and analytics systems. This position directly supports the coaching staff by organizing, tagging, and categorizing practice film, game film, and opponent scouting film.

Primary systems used include DVSport, our video storage and editing software, as well as additional data and analytics platforms used for scouting and game-planning. Responsibilities include uploading video, tagging plays, entering practice and game information, assisting with opponent breakdowns, and supporting coaches with data-related projects.

This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow step-by-step processes, and the discipline to produce consistently accurate work. Because the accuracy of data is critical to coaching, scouting, and game preparation, mistakes in data entry can negatively impact the entire workflow-making precision essential.

Film Data Entry
  • Enter accurate information for every practice and game into DVSport or other film systems.

  • Tag plays with the correct categories, including:

    • Down and distance

    • Hash and field zone

    • Play type

    • Formation and personnel (when instructed)

    • Defensive fronts or pressures (when applicable)

  • Ensure uniform data formatting according to staff standards.

Video Uploading & Management
  • Upload practice, game, and opponent film into DVSport in a timely manner.

  • Ensure film is correctly labeled, sorted, and synced.

  • Maintain clean and organized film libraries.

Opponent Breakdown & Scouting Support
  • Assist coaching staff by entering data on opponent tendencies.

  • Tag opponent film accurately during scouting weeks.

  • Help run analytical reports when requested by the coaching staff.

Analytics & Special Projects
  • Assist with generating reports on tendencies, statistics, or cut-ups.

  • Support coaches with additional data-related projects throughout the season.

  • Update film databases regularly to support weekly game planning.

Quality Control
  • Double-check entries for errors before finalizing.

  • Follow program standards for tagging and data formatting.

  • Communicate immediately if data appears inconsistent or film is missing.
